The Red Scare

For my audio draft, I decided to depict a scenario that many Americans from the early 20th century dreaded. I wanted to create an atmosphere of dread by using siren audio samples and a fighter jet audio sample to give a sense of impending doom. In total, I combined 6 audio samples to create this audio draft. I also included the audio from a radio announcer to provide a sense of immersion.

My Sound Sources:

Lisa Hammer – Lost Eskimo_Lisa Hammer.mp3 – Free Music Archive

Freesound – The Rafale – twin engine fighter aircraft by Rahora

Freesound – Military Alphabet spoken over Radio. by Janosch-JR

Freesound – ALRMMisc_Air Raid Siren In Time Of War_KVV AUDIO_FREE by KVV_Audio

Freesound – Old Soviet subway announcement sound by chungus43A

Freesound – Russian Civil Defense Announcement — Missile Threat Canceled by PortableRecorder

  1. Wow, this is actually pretty scary, really interesting sound sources and great job mixing them together. This a really creative concept. The pacing is well done, it feels slow but there’s interesting things to pay attention to a sort of building sense of dread, and the ending airplane sound is a nice way to go out.
