Project 3: Santa Animation

For this project, I created a short animated scene featuring Santa Claus running and jumping through a winter landscape at night. The theme of the animation is a festive holiday setting, using cool blue tones for the background mountains and sky to create a nighttime atmosphere. Santa is the main character and is animated to move across the screen, giving the scene a sense of action and direction.

The animation was created using Adobe Animate and organized using multiple layers, including separate layers for Santa’s running motion, Santa’s jumping motion, and the fireworks effect. Keyframes were used to control movement and timing, and different poses were animated to make Santa’s motion appear smooth and continuous. The background remains consistent while the character animation progresses across the stage to maintain clear visual focus.

This project demonstrates the use of animation principles such as timing, motion, and layering. The final animation tells a simple story of Santa traveling through a winter night, ending with fireworks to emphasize a festive conclusion. The animation was exported correctly and the original FLA file shows proper organization and use of Animate tools.

Adobe Animate

I chose to animate the emotion stress using simple geometric shapes and text. I used circles and a limited color palette of light yellow and light blue to visually show tension building over time. The animation starts with the text “breathe in” as the shapes slowly expand, then intensifies and becomes chaotic, reflecting rising stress, and finally resolves with the text “breathe out” as the shapes collapse and fade. The most challenging part was timing the middle section so the motion felt natural, which I solved by using motion tweens and carefully adjusting the scale, position, and pacing of each circle.

For my animation emotion project, I chose to represent the emotion powerful using abstract, hand-drawn shapes and motion. I used the brush tool to create symbols like a crown, stars, to represent strength, dominance, and confidence. Motion tweens were applied to scale, position, and opacity to show power building over time and becoming more controlled. The animation ends with the word “POWERFUL” to clearly communicate the emotion without using realistic imagery.

This animation explores the emotion of power using hand-drawn shapes created with the brush tool, including a crown, stars, and a growing circle. I used motion tweens to animate scale, position, and opacity to show power building over time. The circle expanding and the appearance of the word “POWERFUL” represent strength and dominance becoming clear and controlled. Timing and movement were used to make the animation feel bold and confident without using realistic imagery.

For my animation, I wanted to highlight the transition from night to daytime with some rare elements. I started off my animation with it being nighttime and lightning outside. Slowly, the background begins to change from grey to blue, signifying that it’s daytime. The sun replaces the moon in the top right of the screen and the lightning ceases. As the day progresses, more and more stars start to fill out the sky. Colorful stars might I add. Finally, the sky is fully coated in colorful and bold stars in a rare event as the sun and stars are rarely ever out at the same time. It was kind of hard trying to figure what to add to the animation as the title is so specific, but I decided to add more things regarding the sky. I wanted to highlight the sky in a different rather than the usual way.
