I watched the video on the Mason Family Cult. Charles Manson was utterly crazy and lost his mind. He most preyed on young, beautiful women with low self-esteem, alone and willing to try and use drugs. He had such a strong hold on these women and men that he convinced them that he was Jesus and they should do anything he wished, even commit murder. How strong of a hold must an individual have over someone to convince them to murder on your behalf, throwing your whole life away? So, I read the article Who-joins-cults-and-why to understand why these people just handed their lives over to Charles Manson. Is it a particular race, ethnicity, or sex that joins a cult? It mostly has to do with different factors of vulnerability. A vulnerable person is easily persuaded because they can seek attention and love from someone, and a person of power comes along and manipulates them. Many people who join cults are young and in crisis, looking for a family or group to belong to, and are easily swayed when given that. The person in power tends to promise them love if that is what they are looking for and peace and tranquility if they come from a background of turmoil and violence. These empty promises are the hook, line, and sinkers cult leaders use to get their followers. Cult leaders tend to be very pervasive and deceptive. They targeted many young adults in that transition period of their life, going from living at home to now having to fend for your self and figuring out who they are. Many factors can influence why a person joins a cult, such as a lack of confidence, looking for a higher spiritual calling, social awkwardness, and many more; these are the factors cults prey on to recruit their members.

Hello Collin, I also watched the Charles Manson video. I like the fact that you found an article to tie in with messages from the video. I agree with your summarization of the article and how it shows the type of person that Charles was. It also shows that the others were indeed victims as well.
