Summary
I read the article "What is a cult" from Cult Recovery 101, because I wanted to learn more in-depth what a cult was.
According to the article, a cult is a group of people who share an ideology or belief. The concept names a community whose members have common affinities, which allows them to differentiate themselves from other groups of individuals, which mainly causes problems in society. Cults exploit members to further leadership goals. The difference between Cults and religions, political and social movements, and authoritarian groups is that cults extensively use unethically manipulative techniques and are contractual rather than seductive.
From this article, I learned that cults are not good. They are a group of people who practice mind control. Therefore, it can be very dangerous under a harmless appearance due to its harmful effects on the members. The cults psychologically and religiously manipulate people by making them believe that the obligations imposed on them give meaning to their lives.
