Rainy Morning in Upstate New York

Semester/Year: Fall 2025

Software Used: Adobe Audition

For this project, I created an audio portrait of a rainy morning in upstate New York. I layered the natural sounds of rain hitting the leaves and a breeze through trees with small domestic details like the quiet presence of pets and food cooking. These sounds combine to tell a story of calm and simplicity, where nature and home life blend together.

In total, I combined ten different audio samples, mixing both environmental and domestic sounds. I used fades to smoothly transition between clips and adjusted volumes to make certain textures, like the rain and wind, stand out as anchors for the piece. The most challenging part was balancing the layers so that quieter details, such as sitting on the sofa or the dog settling in, didn’t get lost under the rain. I solved this by experimenting with track volume and subtle crossfades to keep the atmosphere natural while still highlighting those moments.

Adobe Photoshop

For this project, I was feeling a little down and started looking through photos of my dog (she appears in the sunbeam and on the far left). That led me to expand the scene into a mix of animals I used to work with and take care of, placing them against the backdrop of one of the first times I truly experienced the changing of the leaves since moving to New York City. It was also my first real vacation outside of the city since I started working and was during COVID. This vacation was shared with a few close family friends. Since the assignment required including web-sourced images, I decided to add butterflies, fitting because I currently work with them, bringing together both personal and professional connections in the same image. Butterfly scales also make up the pattern for the text.

Composite Image – Bahia Kino & Bronx Zoo

For my composite image, I combined photos I took this summer at Bahia Kino in Mexico and at the Bronx Zoo. Bahia Kino is a personally important beach for me and my family, and this trip may have been our last time visiting together as a large group. I chose to bring in animals from my first trip to the Bronx Zoo as a visitor to overlap with the sunset at the beach, blending two meaningful experiences from my summer. All photos are my own.

This is the beach where I celebrated my Abuela’s (Grandma) 85th birthday with my family. We have been coming here since I was young. On the left, is Isla Tiburon.
