  1. Summarize what you learned from watching the TAPS Partnerships with Families: Part 2 video. The beginning of relationship with families can happen with the initial contact. During Arrivals teachers should greet families and, ask them how were their weeks. When its time for separation teachers can allow parents to hand of their child, keep it short, and encourage child to say bye/I love you. Teachers should use discretion and read child’s body language.

What practice discussed do you think is most important for welcoming families? Why? Initial interview, and finding out about child’s interest and reservations. Nothing worst then having things in a daycare that can frighten a child. This shows families that you care about the child’s personal needs, interest, and fears. It also shows parents that you want to care for the child to best of your ability.

Janani said families are the expert on their child. What can programs do to support families as experts on their child? Find out about child’s interest and reservations. Plan curriculum based on child’s interest.

Why are arrivals and departures important to welcoming families? Arrivals set the tone for the child’s day. Departures gives time to clarify any concerns. Help build trust for families.

How does this video relate to the Goldsmith & Theilheimer (2015) reading? Make specific connections, identifying the page number. It relates when it states “On the first day teacher orient the family to the space the children use and places to store their child belongings”” page 81. In the video the teacher took the family for a tour around the daycare spaces and showed the parent where to store the child’s asthma medication.

How does this video relate to the second reading you picked (Block, 2014 or Peterson, 2012)? Make specific connections, identifying the page number. It relates when it states ” Rituals are not just about making transition easier for an infant they are also helping the special adults in the infants life” page 77 In the video they discussed practices that essentially helped parents and children transitioned smoothly.

  2. 1). Summarize what you learned from watching the TAPS Partnerships with Families: Part 2 video. Watching the video TAPS Partnerships with families Part 2 I learned the importance of the first contact the educators have with families for the first time. I learn that first impression and the way that educators teach families when they first come in really sets a stage for partnership.
2). What practice discussed do you think is most important for welcoming families? Why? I think the most important thing to do when welcoming the parents is as shown in the video when the child and the mom come in she said she greets the parents then she gets to the child’s level and greets her as well. Also having that conversation in the morning and asking the mother questions about the child makes families feel welcomed and cared for.
3).Janani said families are the expert on their child. What can programs do to support families as experts on their child? Every family knows their child more than anyone and so this is why it is so important as a caregiver/teacher to have a bond with the family and be comfortable enough to both share information with each other about the child, this will benefit the child and their needs. We all want to do what’s best for the child and so when their needs are met we have done our job correctly.
4). Why are arrivals and departures important to welcoming families? Arrivals set the mood and tone in the day and when parents first bring their child that arrival is very important. We need to make parents as comfortable as possible and let them hand in their child whenever they feel they are ready to do so. Arrivals sets the stage of a good day for the child and the parent.
And departures are a very important part of the day for the teachers/caregivers to communicate to the parents what has happened throughout the day for example, did the child sleep?, did the child eat? Did he play? And many more questions or concert parents might have. Communication is key because it builds a healthy and trustful bond.
5). How does this video relate to the Goldsmith & Theilheimer (2015) reading? Make specific connections, identifying the page number. This video has very similarities to the Goldsmith & Theilheimer (2015) reading because they both speak on “The family talks about their child and shares their hopes and concerns about what may be the child’s first experience away from them (page 81)”. Just like I have mentioned above the video speaks on the importance of when families come to pick children up to communicate about the child the reading also mentions a very similar concern.
6). How does this video relate to the second reading you picked (Block, 2014 or Peterson, 2012)? Make specific connections, identifying the page number. This video related to the reading (Peterson, 2012) because on both the video and the article mentions arrivals and so on the video they demonstrate children coming in with their parents and on the article they speak about Elianas difficulty of leaving her parents (page 76).

  3. 1. Summarize what you learned from watching the TAPS Partnerships with Families: Part 2 video.
In TAPS partnership with families talked about the different ways they welcome new families in their programs. This could be through orientations where parents at their time are able to meet the staff, teachers, learn about the program, and the expectations and getting to know the families that are going into the program. Also by the initial contact, the staff can learn what the infant needs and what they like and what they don’t.

    2. What practice discussed do you think is most important for welcoming families? Why?
    3. Janani said families are the expert on their children. What can programs do to support families as experts on their children?
Programs can ask the families what toys, what activities their infant/toddler likes, and enjoy and incorporate it into the program to make the child feel comfortable. And let the family feel comfortable to let us know if there are things they would like the program to know about their son and what limitations their infant has.

    4. Why are arrivals and departures important to welcoming families?
Arrivals and departures are important to welcoming families because arrivals, show the day the infant will have but also the parent how they would feel throughout the day from the moment they leave their infant at the program. In this situation, by giving the parent time and not rushing the separation between parent and infant, helps the transition the infant and parent go through in the arrivals.

    5. How does this video relate to the Goldsmith & Theilheimer (2015) reading? Make specific connections, identifying the page number.
This video connects to the reading because on page 84 states, “centers can demonstrate their respect for individual differences by thoughtfully planning the beginning experience of group care for infants and their families”; this connects to the video because the teachers explained that when they have new families, they find ways to be able to have the families feel comfortable and learn about the families

    6. How does this video relate to the second reading Peterson, 2012? Make specific connections, identifying the page number.
This reading connects to the video because on page 76 it states “words routine and ritual are sometimes used interchangeably…Routines are repeated, predictable..rituals can be defined as special actions that help us navigate emotionally..”, and in the video, the teachers talked about the importance about learning the families individual routines and rituals and find a balance and help their routine go into the routine of the program and help the family get adjusted to it.

  4. Summarize what you learned from watching the TAPS Partnerships with Families: Part 2 video.
-I learned a lot of different ways to make families feel as comfortable as possible. I learned how to build and start up a new partnership between the teachers, the children, and the parents.
What practice discussed do you think is most important for welcoming families? Why?
-I believe the most important practice that was discussed is greeting both the parents of the child and the child both at eye level. This helps them understand that you have respect and it shows both the child and the parent a sense of trust.
Janani said families are the expert on their child. What can programs do to support families as experts on their child?
-Something that programs can do to support families as experts on their child’s level is to review and figure out little things about the child’s interest. This helps you understand a little bit about certain things that the child might like are be okay with doing.
Why are arrivals and departures important to welcoming families?
-Arrivals are important to welcoming families because it lets them know that everything is going to be okay with or without their parents in their view. Departures are important to welcoming families because it allows the kids to learn to say goodbye and they will still be able to see them some other time. Also it lets the parents catch up on things that happened throughout the day, like concerns or anything of that nature.
How does this video relate to the Goldsmith & Theilheimer (2015) reading? Make specific connections, identifying the page number.
-This video related to the Goldsmith and Theilheimer (2015) reading because it states, “The family talks about their child and shares their hopes and concerns about what may be the child’s first experience away from them” (page 81). In this quote it speaks about the importance of picking and dropping off your child. They both have similar reasons on that topic.
How does this video relate to the second reading you picked (Block, 2014 or Peterson, 2012)?
-This video relates to the second reading I picked because it relates to the routines and rituals that have to be practiced for a child and the family’s comfort. They both show the importance of practicing with a child to make things better for the future.

  5. 1.Summarize what you learned from watching the TAPS Partnerships with Families: Part 2 video.
They talk about welcoming new families in different ways and they are able to make it to meet the teacher’s, staff, and get information about the program.
2.What practice discussed do you think is most important for welcoming families? Why?
I think what is most important is greeting both the parents and child and doing their best to get to know the child shoeing the parents that you are interested in knowing their child and can be trusted.
3.Janani said families are the expert on their child. What can programs do to support families as experts on their child?
They can ask the family what interest does the child have, what kind of toy, book, or play does the child gravitate to.
4.Why are arrivals and departures important to welcoming families?
It is important to make sure the family knows their child are in safe hands and to give them time to depart with the child when it is time to go so that they can make sure their child is going to be put in good hands.
5.How does this video relate to the Goldsmith & Theilheimer (2015) reading? Make specific connections, identifying the page number.
“The family talks about their child and shares their hopes and concerns about what may be the child’s first experience away from them. As they listen, the teachers learn about the child and the family. ” (page 81) it is important for the parents to speak their concerns and give some information on their child so the teachers have a better understanding on how they can help the family.
6.How does this video relate to the second reading you picked (Block, 2014 or Peterson, 2012)? Make specific connections, identifying the page number.
It is the importance from both video and reading that teachers figure out what they can do to better the child

  6. 1. I learned that the first time we communicate with a family is key, since is the only one chance we have to make sure we give a good first impression.I also learned that when s the time for the children to arrive, caregivers should always say hi to the families, and engaged and short conversations. At the time of the separation, teachers should encourage parents to let their children say their good byes.
2.I think the most important practice is the one when we greet children making sure we are making eye contact, as this is a clear demonstration of respect to either children and adults.
3.Nobody knows a child better than his own family. I strongly believe that when a family establishes a relationship of communication with the caregivers of their child, the three parts are able to benefit from it.
    4. Arrivals and departures are important to welcoming families, arrivals mostly because depending on how smooth it goes, it reflects on the behavior of the child for the rest of the day, that’s why is important to give the parents time to say their good-byes with their children so the child can have a smoother transition and have a smoother day.
    6. Both the video and the reading I chose relate because both talk about strategies to develop routines that can improve the childs and the family’s life.On the other hand, both the reading and the video highlight the importance of implementing routines with children, as it has a huge positive impact in their development process.

  7. # The first time we communicate/meet a family is important because is like a first impression, also when the children arrive teachers should always say hi to the families and have a short conversation with the family. At the time the parents leave teachers should let parents say their good byes hugs and kisses.
    # The most important practice is when we greet the children making sure we are cheerful and eye contact.

    # When the family has a relationship of communication with the teachers of their child it makes everything smoother. Arrivals and departures are very important to welcoming the families, Arrivals mostly because depending on if it was good or bad, It may effect on the behavior of the child for the day. This why its important to give the parents time to say their good-byes hugs kisses with their child so the child can feel at ease.

    # Both the video and the reading talk about strategies to develop routines and smooth transitions that can improve the child and the family while the child is in your care.
