Week G

Week G Assignment

The most demotivating part of harpers job is her boss not taking notice of how much she is going through and not being comfortable enough to communicate her struggles with him.  Harper loves the company she works for and has put four years of her life into working there so she would like to continue to work for them but with how her workload has increased since her old boss left, leaving for a new opportunity might be her only option.  In a situation like this having a sit down with her new boss could help tremendously.

If I were an HR manager I would remind him how important it is to communicate with your employees and how they should always feel comfortable bringing up problems they have when it comes to him.  Healthy communication is paramount in the workplace because it will lead to work being accomplished with better quality and if there are ever any misunderstandings they can be cleared up as fast as possible.  I would also make sure that he knows never to overburden his employees because if a worker has too much pressure on them their quality of work will not be the same and ethically the right thing to do is make sure your employees are comfortable

Harper is an extremely hard worker and likes working for the company, losing her would be highly detrimental to the company.  The key to success for most companies is having employees who love their job and harper has lost that love for her job.  The best action to take would be to have a conversation with harper and find out what can be done so that she can enjoy working at the company again.

The Founder

THE FOUNDER

  1. Ray Kroc and the Mcdonald brothers are all businessmen working to be successful but where they differ are their personalities and their long-term goals for their business. Ray Kroc was more interested in growing the business to its maximum potential he had more of an entrepreneurial mindset than the McDonald brothers, who were more focused on the quality of their one burger shop.
  2. When it comes to whether selling out to Ray Kroc was a good decision or not I can see an argument for either side but I believe that they made the correct decision because they were not as interested in growing the business as Ray. Ray’s goal was to completely own Mcdonald’s and when the Mcdonald brothers sold out to him he had put himself in an amazing position to do so.
  3. The local franchisees made money based on the success and acclaim of the restaurants, the more the people enjoyed the food the more money the franchise would make
  4. Ray Kroc made money by financing the restaurants, the difference between the way Ray made money and the local franchises made money is the real estate aspect of it.
  5. After watching the film and learning about the history of what occurred with Mcdonald’s my perception of the company is still the same I am just more educated on what went on during the early stage of the company.

                                         Ethics and Social responsibility

Walmart is one of the largest companies on the planet, no matter where you are in America you will be able to find a Walmart.  Walmart has 4,742 stores in the United States and 10,593 stores across the world which makes them a retail giant, usually, when it comes to retail giants they’re wasteful with energy and do not focus on the conservation of energy and being socially responsible but Walmart continues to take steps in the right direction and separate themselves from the rest of the pack which is why they have been successful since the 1960s.  Walmart has partnered with Bloom Energy and their goal is to make clean energy more accessible and affordable for the whole planet so Walmart associating with them was a great move. A company that employs over two million people should always look for ways to pursue sustainable business practices and Walmart is one of the best examples in the world of this, they want to become one hundred percent supplied by renewable energy and they cover the roofs of many of their retail stores in solar panels.  All of the energy that they save in total using solar energy makes them the biggest commercial solar generator in the world.

Although Walmart is outstanding when it comes to saving energy and being more efficient with their energy use there are other aspects of corporate social responsibility and pursuing sustainable business practices they can be better at such as raising the wages of their workers and offering better hours to workers outside of the united states.  I recommend that they create a workers union so that they are held accountable when it comes to their mistakes and the company can continue to evolve and improve over time. There isn’t much Walmart needs to urgently improve on but when workers are treated fairly and paid well a huge company like Walmart will do nothing but continue to outperform its competition.
