“The Pulse of Chambers Street”

Semester & Year: Spring 2025

Software Used: Audacity

This audio portrait captures the energy of a busy street intersection near BMCC, blending traffic noise, subway sounds, and voices to reflect the daily movement of students and city dwellers. I combined five different sounds. Also layered them to create a sense of rush and excitement. Crosswalk beeps and subway announcements act as rhythmic elements, while background chatter adds authenticity.

Audio First Edit – Blog Post 3

This is my first rough draft of my audio project so far. I am composing a day in the life of the rush hour commute into the city. I used a running sound effect and vehicle sounds to give a sense of urgency to get on time.

First Audio Edit

Hi everyone,

Here is my audio draft, I’m planning on the final project being a portrait of the sounds from my day. I want it to begin with a song so I’m starting in GarageBand. I put together a track using the Modern 808 drum kit. To start the sampling, I recorded my kitchen faucet running and the sound of my keys jangling, I placed those sounds in the track as well. It’s quite fast and the sounds overlay, I like that it’s discordant.

Chinatown Dragon Composite

I composited an image of Chinatown New York with a dragon appearing on the middle of the street. This is inspired by old Chinese films of dragons popping out as a spirt.

I reworked my last image. Added some patterns and layers from a new image. New image is about a starry night. Not like the one by Van Gogh! Haha..

On the picture, a pigeon is talking with his friend gecko about their life. Under a moonlit night on top of a NY skyscraper.

Project 1: Image

“A time is coming” Mahina Onekea, Spring, 2025

For the final image, I decided to make a new collage with two medival paintings I found, using the different blend filters to mash the images together. The main painting visible is “The Death of Saint Anthony.” So I used a quote by him for the text portion “A time is coming when men will go mad.” For the pattern I used the eraser tool to cut out an image of a gold flower sculpture. I wanted to use this over the text but it didn’t show up as well as I planned. Instead, I overlayed and distorted the pattern across the image for the final piece.

Photoshop Composite- 1

Mahina Onekea

For my “first” photoshop composite I wanted to use colors I don’t usually use so I landed on pink. I decided to layer and move multiple shapes around until I got a composition I liked. I used the multiply and other layering effects to get this monochrome picture with the colors overlapping.

Project 1: A Dream Under the Sea

I dream of a life undersea, where there are treasures and beautiful colors around me. I did this image replicating a fantasy of mine, where I’m under the sea exploring caves and finding all the fishes in every Disney movie I saw. I would love to experience this on real life.
