for my final image project, I chose the streets of Harlem and a mourning dove that nests on my fire escape and photoshopped them together to make an image that looks like an album cover.

For this project, I used a couple of images I found online a cool paint splash background and a retro style side profile. I added some gradients and made color adjustments to help everything match better. I also created a custom skull pattern to give it a more unique and personal look.
For my Project I decided to create a narrative quilt, Narrative Quilts have a rich history rooted in African American culture. These have long served as a powerful form of storytelling in my community they are often created by African American women, to document family histories, tell biblical stories, and even record the realities of slavery and the Civil Rights Movement.
In the image shown I collaged some of my images from my recent body of work “The Light We Carry”, which is reflection of the intricate tapestry of family lineage, and resilience my families migration to America. At its core, this work is a deeply personal exploration of the matriarchs who have shaped my journey, and my own evolution into a matriarch within my family’s lineage. I named it Unbuntu which means “I am because you are” after the South African philosophy which is a deeply communal and humanist approach to life emphasizing interconnectedness and shared humanity.
Because I am a Pisces, I am often inspired by the ocean. I added an image of a turtle, one of my favorite sea animals, to my under the ocean background. For my font, I created a pattern of waves crashing to demonstrate what occurs above sea. I kept the gradient natural, but I used levels to adjust the brightness of the turtle and the sea.
I made this image inspired by the picture of the jumping ferret. He looks like he is having fun and what better place then a rave in the forest. I added him to the dance floor on fire and other animal friends and people around him. I wanted to explore as many parts of Photoshop as possible in this image including gradient filters, patterns, stamps, and more to give it a party-like look.
I composited an image of Chinatown New York with a dragon appearing on the middle of the street. This is inspired by old Chinese films of dragons popping out as a spirt.
For the final image, I decided to make a new collage with two medival paintings I found, using the different blend filters to mash the images together. The main painting visible is “The Death of Saint Anthony.” So I used a quote by him for the text portion “A time is coming when men will go mad.” For the pattern I used the eraser tool to cut out an image of a gold flower sculpture. I wanted to use this over the text but it didn’t show up as well as I planned. Instead, I overlayed and distorted the pattern across the image for the final piece.
