Audio Project

“Headed home from the Jazz bar” Spring 2025

(My audio file was not able to fit in open lab as a playable media, hence the download option, sorry!)

Made with Audacity.

For my final audio project, the place I decided to depict was a Jazz bar because they have a charming ambiance. The listener is sat at a table before walking out and leaving. I used seven audio samples in total. First using the volume adjuster and clipping the first five tracks where I wanted them. On my second edit I added another track, the walking and door foley effect. I used filters and effects in this edit as well; the fade out, low-pass filter, echo, and reverb. I finalized my mix using the automation tool to add final touches, smoothing out transitions and fades, and leveled the volume where needed. I decided to add a final track at this time to add more heel clicks/stepping sounds when the listener “leaves the bar.” The most challenging part of this project was finding audio clips that fit my vision and then trimming them to sound how I wanted.

Audio update with effects

(Blog Post 4)

For my audio updates, I made use of the effects and filters. I used a low-pass EQ filter on the end of the track to sound like the person/listener has walked into another room. I also used an echo effects as well on the first track. Lastly, I used the fade out effect on ends of all the tracks as well to make it more realistic.

Audio Edits (Blog post 3 revised)

I previously did the audio project incorrectly so I am revisiting it.

For my audio, I wanted to depict a Jazz bar/club. I used Audacity to edit and compose, and I used five different audios. I used two different tracks of people talking to add depth and blended them together by adjusting the EQ and volume. I also used two different foley effects of glasses clinking and pouring to add to the setting sporadically throughout the track.

Final Project Website

“Plan your vacation!” By Mahina Onekea. Spring 2025

On my website you can “play” and create your own story by choosing a future vacation based on your answer. Each page has its own theme correlating to the response. The screenshots I posted above follow the winter path where you end up in Iceland. There are images and details of each “winning” destination so you can get more information and details on the place, and imagine the story better. I choose to match each path with a corresponding aesthetic to make it more fun and visually appealing. I stuck with the same layout throughout my website to give it a clean, modern, and cute look, similar to a blog website. I am overall really satisfied with my website because I believe it looks really nice.

Creative Brief

First and last name: Mahinalani Onekea

Project title: Plan your vacation!

Story summary

My story will allow the user to “plan” a vacation. The beginning/home page will ask you to begin, the second will allow you to pick a climate, and the following page will determine where you end up and information on that area.

Media

The media I plan to use are mostly visuals. I will have an image on the homepage. The decision page will contain at least two images each and possibly an audio or hyperlink directing you to a website with more information (there will be four outcomes, so at least eight images in total throughout the story).

Style

The overall style of my website will be fun, creative, and sleek for easy navigation and legibility. I want to use a muted, blue, brown and orange color palette, as I feel like it reflects the adventurous tone I am going for, while keeping that sleek, modern theme. (Example below) I think I will reuse the font I used on my final website because I really liked how it looked.

Software

HTML, Sublime, CSS, and GitHub to publish.

“Choose your own adventure”

Spring, 2025. By Mahina Onekea

Made with: Sublime, HTML, CSS, and GitHub

In my “Choose your own adventure” story, you are able to choose between being a painter or singer! I thought this would be fun because they are both exciting career paths. Each page has matching media. I used a soft and fun color palette to make it more inviting and visually appealing. The layout is also easy to read and navigate.

For my first animation/gif I made a ball bouncing off of a wall. For my next edit I want to add a background and clean up the animation. I was inspired by all the dogs that walk around my neighborhood.

Audio Project: Jazz Bar

“Jazz Bar”, Spring 2025, Logic Pro X.

Mahina Onekea

For my project I wanted to depict a Jazz bar, I picked this setting because the noisy ambience was the first thing that came to mind, and Jazz bars are a staple of New York. I used Logic Pro X by Apple to edit this since I already have it. I used five different audios, and added a slight echo effect to the Jazz music to make it seem like it was playing in a large room. I used two different tracks of people talking and blended them together by adjusting the EQ. I also used two different foley effects of glasses clinking and pouring to add to the setting sporadically throughout the track.
