“Jazz Bar”, Spring 2025, Logic Pro X.
Mahina Onekea
For my project I wanted to depict a Jazz bar, I picked this setting because the noisy ambience was the first thing that came to mind, and Jazz bars are a staple of New York. I used Logic Pro X by Apple to edit this since I already have it. I used five different audios, and added a slight echo effect to the Jazz music to make it seem like it was playing in a large room. I used two different tracks of people talking and blended them together by adjusting the EQ. I also used two different foley effects of glasses clinking and pouring to add to the setting sporadically throughout the track.

“A time is coming” Mahina Onekea, Spring, 2025
For the final image, I decided to make a new collage with two medival paintings I found, using the different blend filters to mash the images together. The main painting visible is “The Death of Saint Anthony.” So I used a quote by him for the text portion “A time is coming when men will go mad.” For the pattern I used the eraser tool to cut out an image of a gold flower sculpture. I wanted to use this over the text but it didn’t show up as well as I planned. Instead, I overlayed and distorted the pattern across the image for the final piece.

For my “first” photoshop composite I wanted to use colors I don’t usually use so I landed on pink. I decided to layer and move multiple shapes around until I got a composition I liked. I used the multiply and other layering effects to get this monochrome picture with the colors overlapping.
Swan, Spring 2025, Mahina Onekea
I decided to start with a swan for this project as I’ve been thinking about them lately with spring coming up. He looked aggressive so I decided to give him a sword using the background removing/select tool. I then added a sculpture in the background to finish the European/Medieval look I was getting. I lastly found this “patchwork” filter that looked surprisingly good and tied the piece together. I definitely feel like this is something you would see at the MET cloisters and decent for my first go at photoshop.
