tu quoque

Definition: When you highlight someone else’s mistakes, their response is pointing out your own flaws in an attempt to deflect the criticism.

Example: When my friend and I were arguing, I felt betrayed by something she did that I thought was wrong. In response to my accusation, she invoked ‘tu quoque’ by pointing out that I had also done things that made her sad. ‘Tu quoque’ often occurs in arguments.
