In this weeks modules for ECE 209 Lecture, I read the “Responsive Caregiving (2016) article. After reading and answering the questions for that article, I learned different and effective ways I can become a better responsive caregiver. People fail to realize that being a responsive caregiver is extremely essential to the well being of infants, children birth to 3 years old. This article sheds light on ways we as teachers can be more responsive to infants cues, such as recognizing a child’s strong emotional reactions to changes in caregivers or even being able to allow the infants to solve their own problems when safe and developmentally appropriate. As a caregiver we should also take note on taking care of ourselves and allowing ourself some time and space to recharge our mental and physical energy at different points of the day. This material from these modules will help and support me to meet my goals by allowing me to reflect upon the importance of being a responsive infant caregiver and to gain more knowledge and insight on why it’s essential to infants well being and how it begins to foster healthy brain development which then increases the likelihood that infants can achieve cognitive- language , physical – motor and social emotional milestones.

After this unit, I learned how to become a good Responsive Caregiver and the healthy effects it has on young children to have a responsive caregiver. Being a Responsive Caregiver is very healthy for the child and helps them have a healthy growth, showing there is someone who cares about them and showing them that they matter. Some people assume that Responsive Caregiving is easy but it is in fact not because Caregivers need to learn their students, their students’ growth, needs, and interests and respond to them differently. This can become very tiring physically and mentally, so it’s good for caregivers to take small breaks to recharge throughout the day.
This week I learn about infant care programming, I learn about the best practice when working with anything, I also learn about primary care and why it is important when working with babies. I learn about why communication between home and the infant classroom important, I learn about why is responsive caregiving important, I also learn about the difference between a set curriculum and responsive curriculum etc… these material will help me and support my goals because I’m learning how to manage these knowledge better and how am I going to interact with the babies better.
This week’s module highlighted the importance of ensuring that teachers are doing their best to accommodate the needs of each and every child. It’s important to be responsive that way no child feels neglected or unattended to.
This week’s module for ECE 209-lecture and seminar I learned the meaning of primary care. Primary care is to provide primary, personalize care for assigned children such as feeding, changing diapers, rocking, soothing , talking and engaging the child. This is connected to one of my goals to set an environment for baby and family to support the babies learning as well as the family. The environment of a primary care will work with infants is encourage growth of the whole child in all four domains physical, cognitive, language and social emotional.
