  1. What did you learn in this week’s modules for ECE 209-Lecture and Seminar that connects to your goals? Information/ knowledge Skills
Insights (connections you made or “ah-ha’s” you had about the material)
How will the material from these modules help and support you to meet your goals?

This week in module 3 I learned how important it is to not rush a child to learn. One of my goals is to get a deeper understanding of a child’s development. This is helping me understand all the factors involved not only in the classroom but outside elements that have a great impact on their development and learning. Having a deeper understanding of these elements can help me understand my students better. For instance i had a student who would not be vocal and would grunt. She understood everything i said but would be non verbal. In discussing with the parents i was informed that she had listened to Italian at home by parents and tagalog by her nannies, The child was confusing the language when she would try to speak. I was then able to know where to focus on helping her with her words and vocabulary during our one on one time.

  2. In module 3 I learned how to not only identify the characteristics of growth and development but also different ways in respecting a child’s development and how we as infant teachers/caregivers can support learning. I can also, say that I’ve learned more about the different stages of development which truly helped me visualize what to look for within different age ranges of typically developing children, and what might be lacking for a child who may be atypical. Furthermore, before learning this material from the modules, I hadn’t realized that a change in one domain may prompt a change in another domain and I believe that learning about the contexts to be considered in child development has allowed me to become self aware of my development and the development of those around me.

  3. In Module 3, I learned about “crossing the midline” which was something I’ve never heard about before but makes a lot of sense about how our brains work together. I think it’s amazing that infants and toddlers don’t even really need adults to push them to learn because it’s inevitable for them to learn new skills. They are nonstop growing and learning as they go. When you let them learn at their own pace, it’s better for them because they become more motivated and learn skills faster. Understanding that each infant/child learns at their own pace is essential to being a teacher and very important to helping them learn and give them the appropriate environment.

  4. What did you learn in this week’s modules for ECE 209-Lecture and Seminar that connects to your goals?

This week’s modules I learned that infants don’t need adults pushing them to learn because children are naturally eager to seek out experiences and interactions that support their learning. This is another ways of respecting infants.

How will the material from these modules help and support you to meet your goals?
The material form these modules help and support me meet my goals because it also gave me tips of what teachers should do when it comes to watching an infant, how to wait, wonder, engage and expand their learning.

  5. In this activity, I learned that it’s important to let children progress and learn at their own pace. This is important because if you rush a child, they’re not going to be able to pace themselves and they’ll always feel rushed.
This is an important thing to remember for my career so that way when I’m in the classroom, I can analyze students’s needs and help their developments according to that.
