Tell a story by combining several of the tools/media you learned this semester, and share it with the world on the web.
Content
The story you choose to tell is completely up to you. Pick a topic you feel passionate about and will enjoy working on. Your story doesn’t need to be long or include text – as we’ve learned through the course of the semester, a story can be told through sound, color, shapes, motion etc.
Format
The project should be a standalone website, created with HTML and CSS and published on GitHub pages. It should include at least two (or more) media elements, it can be of two different types or the same type, for example, two animations, or one audio and one image. The media used should follow the same rules for the previous projects, for example, if you make an image, you must submit the PSD file used to make the image, and it must only use media created by you or sourced with appropriate licenses.
Examples
Here are some ideas that would work well for this project:
- Comic book: create comic book panels in Photoshop and/or Illustrator and embed them as individual images on the webpage.
- Animation: Create an animation in After Effects (i.e: featuring a character of your making, promoting a social cause etc.) and embed it on the site.
- Interviews: record a series of interviews on a topic and embed them on the webpage (as individual audio clips or a single edited segment).
These are just a few ideas… the possibilities are as wide-ranging as your imagination.
In each case, don’t forget to include a title, your name, an introductory paragraph, and credits for any CC licensed media you may have used.
Deliverables
Submit the following to Blackboard:
- A creative brief (create an Open Lab post based on this template)
- All the master files for your project (This is the .psd for Photoshop, .fla for Adobe Animate or .aup3 for Audacity).
- Link to Open Lab post with:
- Link to live page published on GitHub Pages
- Link to project files on GitHub.
- Project statement:
- Project title
- Semester and Year (Spring 2025)
- Software used
- 5-6 sentence of your creative and technical process. For example: What story did you choose to tell and why? What media did you pick and why did you think they would be the best choice to convey your story? How do the images/colors/sounds you chose for the piece relate to the subject matter? How do you envision the public encountering/interacting with the piece? What was the most challenging part of the project and how did you solve it? etc.
