Ball with holes: The baby will use their fine motor skills to grab on to reach and grab for the ball, moving it from one hand to another, dropping it and picking it back up, and being able to put the ball against it’s mouth. The gross motor skills would be to walk with the ball in hand, and squat to pick it up. Though using the ball with holes you would notice that fine motor skills would most likely be used by a baby that is 0-18 months old. The age of the baby to start using the ball would probably be around 6-9 months.
Toy grocery cart: The gross motor skills will be to balance on the toy cart by holding on to it, lifting, pushing and walking with it. The fine motor skills would be to use their hands to grab on to the cart handle and to hold on to it. Gross motor skills would definitely be used more for the toy cart. I think they would be able to start using this toy starting at 9 months old.
Structure with stairs, slide, and tunnel: The gross motor skills would be to use their arms and legs to walk or crawl up the stairs, sitting down to slide down the slide and walk to the tunnel to crawl through. Fine motor skills will be for the child to grip on the step when going up the stairs, using their eye coordination to see where they are going. Babies can start using theses structures on their own at 12 months.
Knobbed puzzles: The fine motor skills would be to use hands/fingers to grab on to the knob of the toy, move from one hand to the other, and try to place it back down on to the puzzle board.
Gross motor would be sitting down using their arms to move the toy on the puzzle board from one matching puzzle to the other. Their age to start using the puzzle would be at 12 months.
Baby gym: the gross motor would be to roll over back and forth, crawl around the gym, get into a seated position, can walk around it or hold on to certain parts to support the baby. The fine motor would be for the baby to swing at certain objects using their whole arm, reach for objects that could be hanging from the baby gym, can grab and hold on to objects in the baby gym, try to put any object from the gym in their mouth, and bang object together. Babies are put in baby gyms from 3-18 months.
1). Ball with holes: With this object a child is able to develop their motor and gross skills . Ball play helps children develop grasping skills , eye hand coordination, tracking, finger muscle and the ability to move objects from one hand to another. Some babies are able to roll a ball as early as 8 months, as they grow they are able to throw the ball and squat down to pick up the ball, also throw it with their leg.
2). Toy grocery cart: Children use their gross motor skills to keep balance and holding on to the card and also walking. Fine motor skills are used when the child grabs the card and pushes it. My personal experience orders children use this toy for example 3+ years of age.
3).Structure with stairs, slide, and tunnel: Gross motor skills are used by running, swing, slide and climb. As children use their muscles actively and breath deeply while playing, they bring added oxygen to their muscles. Fine motor is used when the child uses their hands to hold on tight when they’re going up the slide or stairs depending on how that specific toy is structured as there are many different ones out there. This toy can be used for children 13+ months.
Knobbed puzzles: Fine motor is used by finger strength, flip, slide and wriggle pieces into position. Gross motor is used when picking up moving and twisting the pieces of a puzzle and matching each piece in the correct place. This toy is typically used for children 9 months.
Baby gym: Fine motor is used for batting and reaching at objects, rolling over and under, etc. Any toy that requires your baby to interact with it will cause them to practice fine motor skills without them even realizing it. The Gross motor is used when babies use their muscles in their arms, legs, tummy, back and neck. Most play gyms are safe to use from birth, however they don’t get fully used until up to 18 months.
Edisa — Thanks for your post and detailed responses! For children who are learning to walk, we can put heavy items into the grocery cart (like cans of food) to weight the cart down, then let babies push it. Having it weighted down helps babies learning to walk. I enjoyed reading your thoughtful post!
Ball with holes – Babies will use their fine motor skills to grab the ball with their hands, most likely use their reflexes to open their mouth while placing the ball in their mouth. They can also use the gross motor skills to throw the ball, using their legs and kick the ball using their legs. Some babies can sit straight up and roll the ball, using their gross motor skills to bend and push the ball and even to pick up the ball.
Toy Grocery Cart – Babies can use their gross motor skills to walk with the cart, using their legs to alternate and walk while pushing the cart. They can also pretend play and use their gross motor and fine motor skills to grab the toys with their hands such as, the food and lift the food into the grocery cart.
Structure with stairs , slide and tunnel – Babies can use their gross motor skills to use their legs to walk up the stairs and can also use her legs to stand after using their arms to push themselves down the slide and use their arms to also push their selves up to stand after sliding down the slide. Babies can also transition from the steps to the slide to the tunnel. Some things they can do is crawl through the tunnel using both her gross and fine motor skills.
Knobbed Puzzle – Babies can use their fine motor skills, by using their hands and fingers to grab the knobs on the toy. They can use their gross motor skills by using their arms to reach for the toys and lift them to move them around or rotate them from hand to hand. Babies can use their gross motor skills by using their legs to stand independently or use their arms to push their body up from the floor. They can also use their legs and arms to alternate their body to crawl, while hold their heads up.
Baby Gym – Babies can use their fine motor skills to play with the dangling toys. They can use their fingers to move the toys around. Most babies like to put things in their mouth so while using their gross motor skills to stand with their legs or sit independently, they can use their reflexes as they open their mouth while playing with the toys near or in their mouth. They can also, use this toy to grab on to, to pull their selves up to stand.
Hi Erica! Great job mentioning the babies reflexes when it comes to play on the baby gym! I totally agree when you mention this kind of activities encourage the baby’s gross motor skills.
Erica — Thanks for your responses! I enjoyed reading your detailed insights! I hope you enjoyed this assignment as much I enjoyed reading the responses!
1. A ball with holes: A 0-18-month-old baby can use this ball to grasp, throw and reach for it since it has holes in it so the baby can easily grab the ball within the wholes and throw it again. Some gross motor skills that could be used with this toy could be crawling to use his fine motor skills to reach and grasp the toy with his hands, let go of the object and crawl to reach it again. Some gross motor milestones this toy supports would be when babies start to crawl and even for the baby’s that just sit down and are able to reach for things.
2. Toy grocery cart: A 0-18-month-old baby can use this toy grocery cart to push around. Some gross motor skills this toy helps are grasping the object with their hand and pushing it with their hand to walk around. Some gross milestones this toy helps is with grabbing and pushing the cart around and it helps develop the strength in the legs to be able in the near future to walk and be able to stand alone without support.
3. Structure with stairs, slide, and tunnel: A 0-18-month-old baby can use this toy to climb the stairs, slide down it and crawl underneath it. Some gross motor skills they could use are crawling, climbing, walking up steps. Some fine motor skills would use hands to grab the side of the railing to climb up the stairs. Some gross milestones this toy helps would be helping a child to climb up, how to push themselves down a slide, make different transitions.
4. knobbed puzzle: A 0-18-month-old baby can use this to place the different shapes in their corresponding place. Some fine motor skills this toy helps are reaching a shape, grabbing, letting go of the object and placing it in the shape it fits into and they learn to pass objects from one place to another. Some gross milestone this helps are transitioning from placing the shape in different places to find the space where the shape belongs to.
5.Baby gym: A 0-18-month-old baby can use this to grab the toy or kick the toy on the baby gym. Some gross motor skills they use are lifting the head , turning and rolling over, sitting to grab the toys Some motor skills are reaching for the toys, grasping it, banging objects together. Some gross milestones this helps are the baby learning to lift their head to look at the toys, turning over and rolling to see the toys, this would be adequate for babies that are learning to lift their head from the floor. But also for the babies that sit down as well.
Daisy — Thanks for your insightful response! You included a lot of details in your response! I hope you enjoyed this activity as much as I enjoyed reading it!
Ball with holes for babies:
With this object the baby is able to develop and exercise both gross and fine motor skills. When the baby is able t grab on the ball, interchange it from hand to hand, use both hands to spin the ball and move it around, the baby is using his fine motor skills. When the baby uses his feet and legs to kick and roll the ball, he is using his gross motor skills. These are regular motions from babies that are 0-18 months old.
Toy Grocery Cart:
With this toy, early walkers are able to practice their fine and gross motor skills. When te baby is able to stand on his feet by the cart, balancing his body supporting it by holding into the cart, pushing it while moving forward, he is able to exercise his legs, therefore, his gross motor skills are being developed. The baby uses his fine motor skills when he is able to grab the cart with is hands. I strongly believe 8 month old babies are able to manipulate this toy.
Structure with stairs, slide and tunnel:
Babies use their gross motor skills when they make use of their ends to balance their bodies, and walk up and down the stairs, squat and sit to slide down the slide and crawl through the tunnel. Babies use their fine motor skills when they are able to coordinate their eyes with their movements as using their hands and fingers when they grab to go up and down the stairs. Also when they coordinate their eyes with the direction of their body when they walk/crawl to an specific direction. I think 14 month old babies are able to utilize these type of structures.
Knobbed Puzzles:
With this toy, babies are able to exercise their fine motor skills as they coordinate eyes and hands when they grab the knobbed-puzzle pieces and flip them, turn them, remove them, etc. Gross motor skills can be exercised as the baby makes use of his legs to squat and sit to play, for this motion, baby uses his arms and legs to support his body. I think 12 month old babies are able to play with this toy.
Baby Gym:
With this toy, the baby is able to exercise his gross motor skills by being encouraged to move arms, legs, tummy, back and neck. Baby gyms allow babies to play while they are laying on their back, left side and right side, and tummy. The baby’s fine motor skills are exercised as the baby grasps and reaches for the baby gym’s appliances. They develop visual understanding of what they are holding. I believe babies can use this toy when they reach 5 months old.

Ball with Holes- Babies can use this ball to grasp, throw and reach for it since it has holes in it so the baby can easily grab the ball within the wholes and throw it again. They can also use the gross motor skills to throw the ball, using their legs and kick the ball using their legs. The toy is good for babies 0-18 months
Toy Grocery Cart- I think this toy is suitable for babies 8 months and up. Babies can use their gross motor skills to walk with the cart, using their legs to alternate and walk while pushing the cart. They can also “go shopping” by putting their toys in the cart, using fine motor skills.
Structure with Stairs, Slide and Tunnel- suitable for kids 13 months and up. Babies can use their gross motor skills to use their legs to walk up the stairs. They can climb the stairs, slide down the slide and crawl through / under the tunnel.
Knobbed Puzzles- I think babes 12 months and older can play with this toy. Babies can exercise their fine motor skills as they coordinate eyes and hands when they grab the knobbed-puzzle pieces and flip them, turn them, remove them, and so on.
Baby Gym: Fine motor is used for batting and reaching at objects, rolling over and under, etc. Some gross motor skills they use are lifting the head , turning and rolling over, sitting to grab the toys Some motor skills are reaching for the toys, grasping it, banging objects together.
Aalyah — Thanks for sharing your ideas! I enjoyed reading the creative ways you envision children can use the materials — I hope you enjoyed the activity too!
Ball With Holes
The baby will be able to use their fine motor skills so they can grab the ball, throw it, and also reach for it They can use their legs to kick the ball. Also crawling to get the ball.
Sitting up without losing balance and crawling more.
Toy Grocery Cart
Babies use this to walk while pushing it around. Walking, crawling, grabbing. They use the cart to get themselves to stand up by holding on to the handles, grabbing it and walking while pushing it. This toy helps strengthen the legs so babies can have the strength to walk soon without holding onto anything.
Structure with Stairs, Slide, &Tunnel
They would use their arms and legs to climb up the stairs and to get on the slide. They would crawl under the tunnel then use their arms to get back up once they begin to go back up the steps to the slide. They transition from sitting to crawling to walking .Some gross milestones this material supports are climbing up steps and pushing themselves down the slide to then transition to another position.
Knobbed puzzles
A baby uses their hands to grab the knobs and put them in the right place for this toy. They can flip, remove, throw, rotate with this toy. Babies use their fine motor skills by using their hands in order to grab the toy. They use their gross motor skills by moving their arms.
Baby Gym
The baby would roll over crawl, try to stand by grabbing onto something in the baby gym, sitting playing with a toy, lifting their head, or just reaching objects around them. They use their fine motor skills by moving their hands grabbing things. Gross motor skills are crawling, standing, rolling over, reaching for toys and playing.
Ball with holes – A baby 0-18 months would use their gross and fine motor skills. Gross motor skills would allow the baby to use the ball as a support to get back up. Catching and throwing the ball, with the help of those holes would make it easier for babies to hold it stiffly. The holes will give the baby a crip and by this babies learn how to use their arms too. The babies could also lean against the ball and roll down. The babies would learn about eye movements as the ball moves side ways as well as up and down. The fine motor skills would allow babies to grasp the ball with their hands/palm. They could also use their finger movements inside the holes for fun play.
Toy grocery cart- The baby would use gross motor skills to push the cart forward or backward. Babies sometimes also try bitting on the wood or the stand of the cart. They would also use it as a support for walking. For fine motor skills, the baby would play with the rollers on the cart, using their fingers and hands. The baby could also grasp on objects inside the grocery cart.
Structure with stairs, slide and tunnel- Gross motor skills used by a baby would be climbing on the stairs and the slide and pulling themselves up with the help of their arms and legs. Lifting their head and chest up while crossing the tunnel as they do not want to bang their head on to the tunnel. The fine motor skills that will come into play would be grasping on and letting go of the slide while going up and down.
Knobbed puzzles – The gross motor skills that will be used by a baby to use the puzzles would be flipping and sliding the pieces to its correct place. The babies would use their arm strength to locate the puzzle in the given hole. The fine motor skills used would be grabbing the pieces with their fingers and throwing it even. Grasping the knob by pinching it with their fingers too.
Baby gym- The gross motor skills that would be shown by a baby in a baby gym would be rolling over and reaching out for objects in the gym. Knocking over toys and playing with it with their legs, lying down. The fine motor skills would be grasping on toys and objects around. Using their fingers to point on objects and letting go of it by swinging. This object is used for babies around 6-7 months old.
Ball with hole: I would use this for tummy time. By placing the ball in front of the infant while the infant is on its tummy can develop their gross motor skills by making them want to lift their heads up and chest. Working on their fine motor skills the infants and child can reach out for objects.
Toy grocery cart: I would most likely use this for ages 12 months-18 months. I would line up felted groceries near the cart so that I can demonstrate to the infant that the groceries can go into the cart. If the infants imitate my actions this would work on their gross motor skills by standing alone, and walking. This would help them in their fine motor skills by allowing them to grab objects and use their hand independently.
Knobbed puzzles: I would use the puzzle if a child was already in a sitting position and allow them to use it creatively. This would work on their gross motor skills and observing how long they can sit for a duration of time. It would show their fine motor skills of sitting and I would observe if they could reach for objects, bang them together, or even be able to place the pieces in the proper position.
Baby Gym: I would use this for younger infants. I would use this to get some exercise on their backs. This could allow the infants to reach out for objects or kick. which works on both gross and motor skills.
1. Ball with holes: 0-18 months. Babies can use this ball to grasps and also throw it. It is easy for the babies to reach for it since it has many holes in it. Gross motor skills that can be used with the toy ball are grabbing and reaching.
2.Toy grocery cart: At 9 months.Babies can use this toy grocery cart to help them walk and to also push things around. Gross Motor Skills; Grasping objects with their hands and also using their hands to put items into the cart.
3.Structure with stairs, slide and tunnel 9-18 months babies can use this toy to climb the stairs and also slide down the stairs. Gross milestones; This toy will help babies crawl and also teach them how to push themselves.
4. Knobbed puzzles: Babies can use their hands and fingers to play around with they puzzle and put them in the right place. The fine motor skills will be grabbing and throwing the pieces. I think this toy will be good for Babies 8 months.
5. Baby Gym: Babies can use this to roll back and fault and also use this to crawl. The fine motor skills will be crawling, rolling over, grabbing trying to put things in their months. I think this would be good for babies 3-11 months
Ball with holes will help the babies motor skills of grabbing and moving it from one hand to another. A0-18 month baby would drop it and pick it up. At 6-9 months they would start to use the ball.
Toy grocery carts will help the baby to balance and walk. The fine motor skills would be holding on to the handle and pushing it . think at 9 months that they will be able to use this toy.
Structure with stairs the gross motor skills using their legs to walk up the stairs and then using her hands to push themselves down the slide. I think at 12 months they can start using this toy.
Knobbed puzzles would help their fine motor skills to grab the knob and pull it out and put it back in place. The gross motor skills would be using their arms to move. I think at 12 months it would be good to use this toy.
Baby gym the gross motor would be to move back and forth and crawl around. Fine motor skill would be using their hands to swing the object back and forth. And banging them against each other. From 4-18 months think is reasonable.
1. The ball with the holes can help the infants with their fine motor skills. They would have to wrap their fingers into the holes and grasp it in order to hold onto the ball. It’ll also help with poking their fingers into the ball and pinching their fingers to pick up the ball.
2. The toy grocery cart would be great for infants gross motor skills because it helps them stand up while holding onto the cart. It’ll help them start cruising around until they have enough comfort to walk on their own. It will also help the kids learn how to push things by pushing the shopping cart to move it. They of course would work on their fine motor skills because they grasp onto the bar that is holding them up.
3. The structure with stairs, slide & tunnel would help with gross motor skills because they would help the infant walk and crawl up on the stairs, pull to stand, stand alone, and climb those stairs and slide down that slide. They would help with fine motor skill by reaching for the step and grasping the sides to be able to hold on.
4. Knobbed puzzles help with gross motor skills because the infants they turn to put the piece in its place. They most likely grow more in fine motor skills by reaching for the pieces grasping them letting them go in the right place. Also pinching the pieces and passing them hand to hand.
5. The baby gym helps with gross motor skills because the baby can walk around it by holding on to the sides. They can also lift heads their chest, sit, crawl, pull to stand in order to see and touch the objects. The fine motor skills they can learn in to reach and grasp the objects, let go and bang the objects , pinch the objects by trying to get them. They can poke each and every objects with their fingers. They can also experiment the objects by using their hands independently.

Hey Tiana, I like how you explained each one in details and also each which motor is used more. God Job :).

Hey Daisy, I love your explanation. Good Job :).
Hi Daisy!
I also believe the to cart is the biggest helper when it comes to teach a little one how to walk!
Your post is very well detailed.
good job!
Daisy — Thanks for your insightful response! You included a lot of details in your response! I hope you enjoyed this activity as much as I enjoyed reading it!
yes I agree Daisy ball with holes do help babies reach and throw with their hands

Good job Sarah I agree the baby gym it does help with moving back and forth.
