Safety, Health & Risk Management

The new risk companies are facing in 2020 that were not potentially considered in prior decades are hackers, pandemics, social media platforms and technology viruses. These new risk are important to focus on because companies need to protect themselves and their employees. They also need to safeguard the information they retrieve from outside sources, personal information of their clients, customers and or patients, depending on the type of company or organization it is.

Organizations can strive to prevent their risk when it comes to pandemics but unfortunately pandemics are not planned and there is no real set way to prevent a pandemic. They can only get training for their employees to work from home, so if they ever have to again. Companies would have to get software protection to block hackers and viruses. As far as social media platforms the organization needs to keep an open eye for things they may get posted about their company, both good and bad. They say prevention is better than a cure but in reality they cannot prevent everything.

These new threats can affect my comfort at work and willingness or interest at work because if an organization cannot keep my personal information safe or me safe, I will lack interest. Everyone should practice safety first no matter who they work for. My health matters because if I am not healthy I will not perform at my highest potential. If I don’t feel safe I will not be able to completely focus on my task hand because I would focus more on my surroundings. Social media platforms can be of assistance or destruction to an organization and technology viruses can wipe out all data that has been entered into our system, which will cause the organization money and time to repair the technology.

Benefits and Services

Organizations are changing their operations to incorporate new benefits for employees by making sure they gain from working for the company. They offer the workers benefits like,  transportation benefits, educational benefits, severance pay and paid sick and personal days. Transportation benefits are to ensure you can get back and forth to work, educational benefits for you to expand in the field your in. The severance pay is to assist in maintaining your livelihood until you are able to find other employment and paid personal and sick days are for the employees to feel comfortable when needed to handle their personal business and or not feeling well.

All of these benefits are appealing to me because it works to my benefit. These benefits are of a great deal of assistance because it helps you financially. Metrocards are expensive and that expense can go to something else in the household. Not everyone like myself, was able to afford to go to college and or finish high school. So an organization paying to further ones education is always a plus. Severance pay, paid personal and sick days are all for the employees benefit not the company. It shows they care for their staff. I would consider taking a lower rate as long as there is long term gain. It shows the company is looking for loyal employees and are willing to do what they have to do to keep them.

Retention Assignment

What do you think is the most demotivating part of Harper’s job?

The most demotivating part of Harper’s job is that she is not being compensated for her work load. Harper is also not feeling heard or seen, as she previously did with her prior boss Jose.

If you were an HR manager meeting with Harper’s supervisor, David. What advice would you give to help them re-engage Harper?

If I were an HR manager meeting with Harper’s supervisor David, I would advise him to meet with Harper or to communicate with her via email once a week, to address any if her concerns and or needs. I would also, advise him to raise her salary. Harper should be compensated for the extra work load she took on due to her prior boss departure. Harper will re-engage when she feels appreciated and recognized.

What would be the downside of losing Harper as an employee?

The downsides of losing Harper as an employee would be that Harper is an experienced and loyal employee. She likes what she does and when an employee enjoys their job, the job gets done. The company would have to train and hire someone to do the duties Harper already knows with the enthusiasm and work ethics she has. Al though, it is possible, many employers would prefer people grow with their companies.

Personality Test Assignment

My personality type is the advocate (INFJ-A). I agree with the quote “treat people as if they were what they ought to be and you help them to become what they capable of being” by Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe. Advocates are the rarest personality of types of all. Deep sense of idealism and integrity. Advocates unique combination of personality traits makes them complex and quite versatile. Advocates generally strive to do what’s right – and they want to help create a world where others do the right thing as well. People with this personality type may feel called to use their strengths – including creativity, imagination, and sensitivity – to uplift others and spread compassion. Advocates may see helping others as their purpose in life. They are troubled by injustice, and they typically care more about altruism than personal gain.

As a result, Advocates tend to step in when they see someone facing unfairness or hardship. Advocates may be reserved, but they communicate in a way that is warm and sensitive. This emotional honesty and insight can make a powerful impression on the people around them. Advocates value deep, authentic relationships with others, and they tend to take great care with other people’s feelings. That said, these personalities also need to prioritize reconnecting with themselves. Advocates need to take some time alone now and then to decompress, recharge, and process their thoughts and feelings. I totally agree with the majority of the results but I do not think I judge other, I just see things for what it is. I agree with everything else because it is describing how I am with my family, friends and strangers. I would like to say that I do not see myself to be an introvert but an omni-vert yes.

My strengths are being creative, insightful, principled, passionate and altruistic. Although, these are all positives for me, some may look at me as a know-it-all or someone who thinks their better than others because I look deeper into situations others would just pay attention to the surface of. The challenges I have faced from being intuitive and passionate are that though I see more that meets the eye no everyone will understand me. Some see my passionate ways as being aggressive. Yes, all of these traits play out in my personal life. I love helping others the best way I can whether it is my family, friends or strangers. Some people say I am too sensitive and some think I can be naive because I do not judge others based off what I hear or see. I go based off what I feel and know due to experiences in life. I choose to see things from all perspectives. I believe in individuality and having an open mind-set.

I do not agree that personality tests are effective ways to determine whether a candidate is right for a role because people change and there are those who enjoy learning new things. They are so many people who want to change or want change but have no been given the opportunity do to survey as such when going for a position that requires  surveys and or personality test. I feel energy speaks more volumes than any test or survey to get any position. Everyone should be given a chance at something new or a second chance to try again.

LinkedIn Assignment

LinkedIn Profile: linkedin.com/in/teri-ly-newton-021573aa

Our Zoom meeting class on February 23, 2021 with our special guest Annie Stankevich and Tiffany Suarez was very helpful and informative. I have been on LinkedIn for a long time. Now that I know how useful it is I can put it to use. What caught my attention the most was the interview discussion. I myself have not been working for over two years and the thought of having to be interviewed has scared me. So it was good to hear both women give good advice on how to prepare ourselves for an interview. Learning more about LinkedIn from the ladies helped me understand the many purposes of having a LinkedIn account. I appreciate all the insight given.

Equal Rights Assignment

It’s Our Right

Ruth’s  mom taught her to question everything,

It’s funny because I tell myself the same thing.

Each generation becomes more courageous and wiser,

They say knowledge is power,

I say only if you teach others how to rise higher.

Who is anyone to say what we can and cannot do?,

If I was Ruth back then I would have stood just as tall and true.

All it takes is for one person to think, this world is bigger than what I see,

Who said she cannot be he?

As she rose above the naysayers,

She astounded the believers.

Who knew she would be a future leader.

How beautiful for her daughter to witness such a rebellious soul,

She went from mom the bully, to all she wants to know.

Her demeanor ignited curiosity and change began to grow.
