  1. Hello, my name is Marielis Rodriguez. My major is Early childhood education. I’m Dominican, however I was born and raised in the Bronx. I choose this major because I grew up with little cousins and helping them with their homework and it felt like something I would love to do as my career. This is my last semester at BMCC. My plan after BMCC is to transfer to a four year college and continue my education. I love listening to music and staying to myself.

    1. Hi Marielis, nice to meet you. When I first started I as well majored in Education because I love kids as well but I noticed that I rather help kids emotionally than academically. I wish you the best, the world needs more teachers especially teaching fundamentals.

I’m graduating BMCC with a Science for Health degree after this semester, I was hoping to get into the nursing program this semester but didn’t make the cut with a 93% on the HESI. I am a little disappointed, but it is what it is. I’m going to finish my BS in Psychology at City College in hopes of applying to accelerated programs to get my nursing degree. In my free time I like playing video games and traveling.

      1. Hi Annie, I’m so sorry to hear about the nursing program. Did you ever give LPN a thought? I also love traveling. I’ve been to a couple of places but so far my favorite was Hawaii, where’s your favorite place?

    1. Hi Annie,
Thank you for sharing your journey so honestly. What really resonated with me was your decision to continue with psychology after not getting into the nursing program this semester. I actually wanted to major in psychology at one point too, but I ended up changing my path, so I understand how plans can shift while the end goal stays the same. I admire your perseverance and the way you’re using this moment as a stepping stone instead of a setback. A 93% on the HESI is still an incredible accomplishment, and it says a lot about your work ethic. Wishing you the best of luck at City College and with your future accelerated nursing program, you’re clearly on the right path.

    2. Hi Annie, congratulations on graduating BMCC! I’m sorry to hear about the nursing program. But it sounds like you’re still moving forward with a good plan. I also enjoy playing video games, it’s a nice stress reliever. Wishing you the best in school and your career path.

  13. Hi everyone,

My name is Alina. I’m currently a Psychology major with a STEM concentration at BMCC. I’m very interested in understanding human behavior, mental processes, and how psychology connects with science, research, and real-world applications.

I’m especially interested in POL 100 because it helps me better understand how government works and how political systems and policies affect individuals, communities, and society as a whole. I think this course will give me important context for understanding social issues and human behavior from a broader perspective.

Outside of college, I work in marketing and content creation, but I decided to pursue psychology because I want to build a strong academic foundation and eventually work in the mental health field.

After BMCC, I plan to continue my education and transfer to a four-year college. I’m excited to learn more through this course and to hear different perspectives from my classmates.

Looking forward to a great semester!
