  1. Hello, my name is Shawana Kyser. I currently work for the Department of Homeless Services as a police officer, and I’m attending BMCC to finish what I started many years ago. My major is Early Childhood Education and Special Education. With the rise of different forms of learning disabilities, I want to be someone who makes a difference by exploring new teaching styles and creating meaningful change in education.

    1. Hi Shawana,

Nice to meet you! It’s really impressive that you work as a police officer and are going back to school to finish your degree. I think it’s amazing that you want to help students with different learning needs and make a positive impact in education.

I’m looking forward to this semester and learning alongside you.

    2. Nice job you have Shawana. I was thinking of trying that out because i fit in that role just that I don’t have any connections with anybody that can get me into a position in that field, maybe if you could give me a hand and reach back on how I can join I would really appreciate it.

    3. Hey Shawana, it’s great to meet you! I admire your dedication to returning to school and pursuing Early Childhood Education. It sounds like you have such a meaningful goal of making a difference in the lives of students with learning disabilities. I am sure your experience as a police officer will bring a unique perspective to your studies. I look forward to learning alongside you this semester.

Congratulations on your new bundle of joy born a week before classes started , and kudos to you for jumping right in to not letting that stop your goals and accomplishments.

    2. Hi Ariel, congratulations on the birth of your new baby! It’s inspiring that you’re balancing school with raising three children. 3. Hi, my name is Daniyal Khundmiri, I am currently in my 2nd year of community college, and my major is engineering. I absolutely adore space and astronomy, and being an aerospace engineer is my dream job, so after finishing my associate’s degree at BMCC, I hope to dive into that field as much as I can while completing my bachelor’s.
My other interests involve reading a lot and painting, video games, thinking about how everything is or is a product of a social construct, while existing independently of human perception, and impulsively upgrading my computer when I have the money.

I’m looking forward to this semester. Thank You

    1. Hi Daniyal,

It’s great to meet you! Your passion for space and astronomy really shows. Becoming an aerospace engineer sounds like an amazing goal. I also think it’s cool that you enjoy reading, painting, and thinking about deeper ideas like social constructs. Upgrading your computer when you can is something I can relate to too.

I’m looking forward to learning alongside you this semester and hearing more about your experiences in engineering.

    2. Hi Daniyal, it’s great to meet you here! I love that you’re bringing such a wide range of interests like space, reading, painting, gaming, and thinking critically about social constructs into our political science class. I think your perspective on how things exist independently of human perception will make for some really interesting discussions this semester. Looking forward to learning alongside you!

  4. Hello, my name is Tiffanie Nieves Rosario. I am currently attending BMCC and am majoring in Criminal Justice. I chose this field because I am interested in becoming a crime scene investigator or a private investigator for foster children. I want to use my skills to help protect and support vulnerable individuals in our community.

After BMCC, I plan to transfer to John Jay College to pursue my bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. Outside of school, I enjoy watching crime documentaries and running a small side business making custom tumblers and party goods. I am excited to learn and grow at BMCC and connect with others who share similar interests.

    1. So far as I’m reviewing my classmates responses i feel like we both have that same connection that same “mindset” you can say, just instead i would like to be either a detective or a border patrol but a crime scene investigator seems so much interested I get into it when its about a documentary or movies so I wouldn’t mind learning that also but sadly wouldn’t want that to be as my first option.

I like the fact that you want to help out the community by protecting it. Seems like you can do it, might not know you physically but i could see potential on you. Don’t give up on your dreams chase them, i could count on you.

    2. Hi Tiffanie! It’s really cool that you’re interested in crime scene investigation. I also enjoy watching crime documentaries and sometimes listening to podcasts about it. I’m also planning to transfer to John Jay too, but for Forensic Science.

    3. Hi Tiffanie, your passion to help those vulnerable members of our society really inspires me. I also believe we should be helping as much as we can because the true measure of a civilization is in how it treats those in need and/or deemed “lesser.”

I’m very interested in your side business, and we share a mutual interest in crime documentaries. Im looking forward to working together this semester.

  5. Hi, my name is Mariam Idris. Im majoring in Science in Health for Nursing. Im graduating next year and plan on transferring to City College. I draw for a hobby, mostly things that inspire me, Ive been drawing for years now and only picked it up again recently this year. Im looking forward to this semester, as well as this class and hope to excel in it.

  6. Hello Professor and fellow classmates,

My name is Eltoinette Warren, but I go by El. I’m a native New Yorker, born in Brooklyn and raised in the Bronx.
I am currently enrolled in five classes—four online and one in-person, twice a week. BMCC is my third attempt at college, and I’m hoping to stick with my studies this time. I first tried college almost 20 years ago, right after high school. I attended John Jay for one full year, but I struggled to balance the challenges of being a young adult with my studies. I didn’t do very well and later transferred to Hostos for a semester here and there.
I spent years in the workforce, fortunate to land a career in Global Finance without a degree. I was self-taught and believed it was more about “who you know” than “what you know.” However, I’ve learned that this approach only gets you so far. The current job market and my desire for more in life have humbled me. I realized that the only way to achieve my goals was to pour back into myself and finish what I started years ago.
My major is Criminal Justice, as I had already accumulated credits in that field. After completing my studies at BMCC, I plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. I’m taking on my courses while working full-time, and I hope to still find time to travel, which I love to do at least three times a year.
I would like to wish all my fellow classmates a successful fall semester, and I look forward to connecting.
    Best regards, El

    1. Hi Isis! I love your motivation and that your daughter inspires you. My children also inspire me also. The fact that you love math is impressive. Civil engineering is such a powerful field, and it’s awesome that you want to use it to build a better future. Wishing you the best on your journey!

  8. Hi guys my name is Dwayne my major that I’ll be studying will be criminal justice. What I plan on doing after Bmcc is to become a cop or go back to school and get my Bachelors Degree to become an FBI agent. wish you guys the best on you’re journey.

  9. Greetings,

Most and formal it’s a pleasure to meet y’all, wishing my classmates good luck on this fall semester. I’m Manuel, usually don’t get called by my first name either “Manny” for friendly wise or “Chucky” which is what I really go for just because I had this little funny nickname since my freshman days of high school. I am currently majoring Criminal Justice, hoping to do my best these 2 years of Community College at BMCC to get a transfer to John Jay.

Not really much I can say about myself other than me being a great socializer person outdoors, and yes in a very responsible way just for the fact that my priorities come first. Living and working in New York City is not for the weak. Just moved in the beginning of this year coming from New Haven, Connecticut where I was born and raised. Finding a good job around is not as easy as you think I had to struggle the first few weeks and had to stick with being a porter and a produce stocker at a supermarket for 4 months. Now I do valet on the weekends and work at this warehouse in Brooklyn during the week, which it isn’t a bad start but still looking forward for more open opportunities.

    1. Hi Manny,

It was great to connect with you. I’m wishing you all the best with your studies at BMCC.

It’s really impressive that you’re pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice while also handling a big move and working several jobs. That kind of dedication and drive is something to be proud of, it shows you won’t let anything stand in your way. I myself have done the same many years ago. Just be sure to take care of yourself and find a good balance so you don’t get burned out.

I’m curious, what do you hope to do long-term with your Criminal Justice degree?
