I’m interested in becoming a UI/UX Designer, but I’ve discovered that I really enjoy graphic design. Understanding its principles is extremely helpful to become any kind of designer. I have not created many UI projects yet, but I plan to add them to my portfolio in the future. Here’s the link for the one UI/UX project I’m most proud of:

I made this portfolio format a long time ago and I’ve lazily kept it updated every time I have new projects by just placing them in the categories. I would like to reorganize and reprioritize what I’m showing. Many of these projects were some of the first things I ever tried to make so a lot of it may not represent what I’m capable of now well. Early on I was also not great at documenting my process so I would like to add a lot more detail for exactly what it was that I was doing at the time and how I created the pieces. Most importantly I’ve made more games and some animations in recent classes that I would like to incorporate.

I would like to add additional projects from last semester which include a multimedia project and some ux design work. Overall I want to work on adding better descriptions for the projects I’m keeping and remove some things from my portfolio that aren’t my strongest work. This is a link to my portfolio website. I want to improve my ‘about me’ section so that it’s more personalized but still includes my goals as a designer. I’m also thinking about removing one of my projects (the one about the solar panel company), as it’s a weaker project in comparison to my personal projects. I also want to add more subtle illustrations in my website. Lastly, I think my footer could use improvement.

I would like to improve the written descriptions for each project. Right now, many works are presented mainly as visuals with short explanations. I plan to expand these descriptions to clearly explain the goals of each project, the process behind them, the challenges I faced, and the solutions I developed. My entire site has a huge layout/formatting issue and it’s just too big on desktop, so I’ll be changing that. I should make it have a clear interface and add new descriptions for a few of my classwork and personal projects.

For instructions on how to submit a post, please follow these instructions: https://openlab.bmcc.cuny.edu/mmp460-s2022/posting-on-open-lab/. FORMATTING FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT: Use the title format “[FirstName] [LastName] group forming” and select the Category “Week 2 – Group Forming Activity”

Step 1: Create a Post with answers to the following questions:

  • When are you available to meet outside of class?
  • Which skills can you bring to the team?
  • Are you comfortable leading or have you led a group team like this before?
  • What is your major?
  • What are your career goals?
  • What grade are you seeking to get on this project?
  • Are you the kind of person who works through the semester steadily or seeks to complete everything right before the assessment is due?
  • What social cause are you interested in? This could be a general subject (i.e: the environment) or a more specific topic (i.e: Cleaning up the Gowanus canal).

Step 2: Read everyone else’s answers. Write down each classmate’s name and write down  a “compatibility” level – between 1 (lowest) and 5 (best) – next to each one.

Step 3: Email me your compatibility list at apinkas@bmcc.cuny.edu. Give each potential teammate a number from 1 (least compatible) to 4 (very compatible). I will keep these ratings anonymous and will take them into account when forming the groups. Please do not be disappointed if you don’t get your “ideal” group. I will do my best to accommodate everyone’s preferences but will also try to balance everyone’s skill sets.

  • By next week, submit your teammate evaluation form and  individual contribution form. These should be send to me via email at: apinkas@bmcc.cuny.edu. I will not share this informationation with your team members or anyone else in the class. 
  • For next week, create and rehearse your final presentation as a group. Make sure it is clearly named (i.e: NameofTeam_finalPresentation) and upload it to your team folder. Each group will present to the class next time we meet. Be ready to offer feedback to your classmates.
