This is a good thematic curriculum topic. It is developmentally appropriate for Pre-K and culturally responsive. A few thoughts and comments to consider:
1. You may want to choose a more developmentally-appropriate title for the thematic unit, and which more accurately represents the sub-topics, such as “Our Culture”
2. Sub-theme 1 and Sub-theme 5 should be combined into a single topic, as they both explore the same concepts. Nationality means “Where we are from and where we live now.” This is a good sub-topic and very expansive.
3. You may want to consider starting this curriculum unit with a general introduction to the concept of “what is culture” in Sub-theme 1 and then Sub-theme 2 can become “Where we are from and were we live now (nationality).”
4. The other sub-themes, Music and dance, Food, and Languages are good, but you want to rethink the titles. Remember, children in your class may be U.S.-born and their primary language might be English. Therefore, you may want to expand these sub-topics to explore family heritage (e.g., languages spoken in countries where my family originated, music/dance/foods in countries my family came from). Also, remember to use “my” rather than “your” in the titles; it is more inclusive.
