To support children’s development, teachers need to provide a range of materials for creative play. Now that you have created a design for the physical layout of the classroom, you need to develop a list of materials for each of the centers as the next part of your Learning Environments Project.

To help you think about what types of materials support creative play and what types of materials support other types of learning (e.g., memorization), begin by reviewing the powerpoint Divergent and Convergent Materials in ECE. Look at the photograph above and think about the different learning centers. What types of furniture, flooring, and materials would you need in each center?
