The criteria of choosing a family is to choose a family that’s not close to you, you may know them but not someone your constantly around.
You should select a family you do not know because if you do then you’ll make opinions based on how well you know them and we do not want that.
To identify a family you have to ask permission to see if they don’t mind being interviewed and then schedule an appointment to talk over the phone or video and that would take about an hour or maybe more depends.
After the family is identified it’s time to learn about the pregnancy to the birth of the infant all the way to the family’s culture.

Mel -Thanks for your comment. This project is designed to develop skills working with families and apply your knowledge from ECE 209 to a baby and family. Because the interview will be conducted virtually, the family only has to meet with you once for about an hour by phone, FaceTime, Skype, Zoom, Google Hangout, What’s App, etc. I will provide you with a video to observe a baby. To identify a family, you should reach out to the people you know and ask if they know of a family with a baby (friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, colleagues in class, people in your networks, and communities, etc.). i reviewed this module
1) Study the child in the context or getting to know their culture and family. Apply what we have learned so far in class.
2) Initial contact with the family of an infant
Interview with the family of an infant
Observation
Commentary paper (draft)
Commentary paper (draft)
3) Find a family that you’re not much familiar with, a family who has a child aged 2 months- 18 months
4) It’s better to choose a family that you don’t know of because then you can’t learn nothing new about the child and their family. It would be better to find a family that you dont know so you can get to learn new things about the family on how they do things. Because what if the family has the same race but you’re noticing they doing a dish different from what you do or know, can be interesting to learn.
5) We can identify a family who feels comfortable sharing information about what their child likes and dislikes. Because it’s important that the family feels comfortable rather than insecure because then there can be a lack of communication and that can be bad for the making of a paper.
6) Ask appropiate questions about preganancy, birth and after birth, childs development and milestones. Their insterest and whats has remain about the child or changes based on actitivies or eating preference.
Marilyn — Thanks for your comment! We have lots of assumptions and pre-existing knowledge about a family we know — so choosing a family we don’t know allows us to view the family with an open mind and learn about the family. Identifying a family who feels comfortable sharing information about their child and family is key, as is identifying a family who can work with our deadlines. After identifying a family, be sure to introduce, explain, and ask the family if they want to participate.

3. The criteria for choosing a family should be someone that is not a relative or a close friend. The infant should also fit the age range (2- 18months old). Willing to meet several times, in close proximity, and enjoys talking about their child.
4. We should select a family we do not know to prevent any bias opinions.
5. We can identify a family by reaching out to people you know and ask if they know of a family with a baby (friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, colleagues in class, people in your networks, and communities, etc.) willing to participate in this interview.
6. After identifying a family, we should introduce ourselves and inform them about the assignment and be as professional and respectful of their privacy.
Xitlaly — Thanks for your comment. In addition to developing skills we will use with infants, we will be developing skills we will use with families! Preventing bias is a great way to frame it! Because we will be conducting the interviews virtually, the family can live anywhere in the world! When you find a family, after you introduce yourself and explain the project, be sure to ask them if they want to participate!
