GLOBAL ASSIGNMENT

Choosing a host country national staffing strategy is good for businesses because it allows workers to be employed across the country they work in. It also allows them to manage the operations of that business. Host country national staffing is a easier application of business objectives even though expatriate may not be culturally versed or well accepted by host country; employees. This strategy allows managers to gain experience in the markets locally by building employee morale and motivating them to work harder. They would most likely be familiar with language, culture and laws and be able to market the product or service efficiently. They wont need to obtain documentation or a work visa and the company saves money because they don’t need to relocate someone from another country.

The current plan in the fish to go company in the united states is that managers make 55,000 per year with a 2 percent profit sharing. I would increase their annual salary to 47,000 with a 2.5-3.0 profit share. I would also include health benefits, paid vacation and personal days alongside holiday days back(if they are scheduled to work )  and sick days. I would also provide employee training for employees who would like to learn managerial skills.

For the UK and Mexico I would start managers off 55,000 if they already reside there. For the managers relocating to train the new managers I would pay them 60,000. All employees will receive paid vacation days, sick days, personal days and holidays. I would start both countries off with 55,000 based off of my research that managers in the UK make 32k-63k and managers in Mexico make 10k-78k. To keep up with the compensation plans of the UK the company will provide stock options, travel insurance and a gym membership. Employees will also receive dental and vision. In the Mexico Store the company will offer hardship allowances and Aguinaldo(a yearly bonus), profit sharing and seniority premiums. The employees will also be registered with Mexico’s social security system.

In order to get managers into shape they will go through various training courses to learn about Fish to Go. Managers from the united states(expatriates( who relocated to the store will start at a cultural level so they can learn how to communicate and eliminate cultural missteps. They will also go through repatriation training. and their families will be offered support throughout the first two years in the new country. Managers will be trained in customs, culture and peculiar business practices as well as cultural sensitivity.

Remote Learning Vs In Person Learning

Being a stay at home Mother during the day I was unaffected by remote learning. I actually enjoy it better then in person learning. Its convenient for me and it allows me to be at home with my children. I am able to monitor them and I am able to keep them safe.  For my class debate I was chosen to argue that remote learning was best for our children’s future. My points were

  • It lessened bullying ( if children are being supervised like they are supposed to by their parents)
  • It stops the spread of germs that cause the common cold, flu and covid 19
  • we do not know the affects the vaccine will have on school age children since they have not been on the list for it
  • It creates independence for children to learn and study on their own
  • They will learn technology and how to use a computer which helps in the future

After hearing the other sides debate and argument I do agree with the points that they made such as

  • Children need to engage with other children
  •  Its easier for teachers to engage with students
  • Its easier for students to grasp the work being taught
  • Children need to have activities such as gym and playground time

I don’t think that it is any right or wrong answer, I believe it depends on each families situation. If people are lucky enough to stay home and be on top of their kids education they should go for it and the people who have to go to work its understandable that their children go to school. I think whatever works for the family should be done.

Covid 19 and its Effect in Businesses during the Pandemic

Covid-19  and its Effect on Businesses during the Pandemic

Covid-19 took everyone by surprise, not only did it cause millions of people to get sick across the world, it also killed millions of people. Because of this it caused a lot of businesses to shut down for months and when they were able to reopen a lot of restrictions were placed on them. Do to this a lot of businesses have lost a lot of money.  Although the united states suffered from other pandemics in the past it happened decades ago so todays businesses were not equipped to deal with it.

Some of the challenges that a lot of businesses face are bad reviews via social media. In the past businesses only had to worry about a bad review via word of mouth but every since social media has become so popular amongst people negative reviews travel a lot faster then before. All it takes is one unsatisfied customer to comment and others seem to follow suit. When this happens it makes future customers second guess a purchase and can create a decline in sales. To prevent this I think that businesses should get back to unsatisfied customers promptly and find out why they weren’t satisfied. Then they should try to rectify the problem and offer a half off discount for future purchases.

Another problem businesses faced was having to work from home. Due to the pandemic a lot of people had to start working remotely if they weren’t considered essential workers. Due to this factor a lot of important information is being kept on laptops and can be accessed through Wi-Fi and peoples information can be leaked. This causes people to be scammed and for their accounts to be hacked leading up to charges and purchases made by the hackers. People’s identities are not protected and that isn’t safe. To prevent this from happening the company can put software in place to prevent hackers from hacking into systems while employees are working from home.

Since the pandemic started businesses are operating with less capacity, which means companies are losing money. Gov Cuomo put this plan into action to lessen the blow of the virus and to stop it from spreading so rapidly. I think that businesses should set up appointment slots so that  people can book them accordingly. another plan is to offer online services for small businesses who depended solely on people coming to the store.

covid 19 did not affect me at all. I am an essential worker and i work in the ER. It was a scary situation for me at first but as the days went by I was able to overcome my fear. We have to wear protective gear at all times such as eye wear, n-95 masks as well as a surgical mask and we also have to wear scrubs under or gowns. I kind of hated working for the hospital in the beginning because I was afraid of catching the virus and losing my life, but I am proud to work in the health field and make a difference

BENEFITS AT NORTHWELL

Benefits and what they mean to Employees

Searching for a job in America can be a tedious thing. You try to find the best pay, weekends off and most importantly a job with great benefits. Benefits are important these days and often determine if an employee will stay with an employer for a long period of time. A lot of employees stay with their companies even when the pay isn’t great because of the benefits and what the job offers such as health insurance, dental insurance and 401k’s. Although those are just the basic ones a lot of companies have been offering way more in order to lessen the turnover rates.

I work for Northwell healt, one of the biggest health systems in the five boroughs and I am a satisfied employee. My pay is great, and my benefits are even better. I am part of a union called 1199 and they are a great union to be a part of. Because I am a part of this union, I received health insurance and dental insurance and do not have any copayments with my plan. We all know that copayments can be costly and can add up every time you go to the doctor. As a Northwell employee I also have a 401k plan with them in which the company adds money to it as well. I have life insurance with my job, and we also receive raises twice a year. Northwell also offers childcare reimbursement, discounts to care insurance companies, cell phone and cable companies as well as entertainment. My company also pays tuition for people who would like to further their education. Northwell also pays you for your time that you occurred that you didn’t use during the fiscal year.

Since Covid has been around and we have worked so hard we have gotten more incentives’ such as a bonus, Breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as extra vacation, personal and sick time. Although my company offers all these great benefits only three of them are important to me. I have three children so having health insurance with my union helps a lot because I do not have to pay copayments and I still have a wide spread of great doctors I can choose from. I also enjoy having a 401k so that I have a healthy savings when I retire.  Although I get paid more than most, I would accept a pay cut just to keep my health insurance. I Know that a lot of other companies do not offer the insurance that I have especially at the rate that I pay. Having paid time off is also important to me, I get to go on vacation or even just stay home and still get paid and I never have to worry about losing money if I call out sick.

Although certain benefits can be pricey and unsustainable for a lot of companies, I think that it is realistic to find benefits that work for the employers that the employees will enjoy. Companies must move and work within a budget that works for them. Offering benefits will decrease turnover while also making employees feel appreciated. I think that companies that offer benefits will have longevity within the company and that it will pay off in the long run

The Advocate – Personality Test

The Advocate

I am an advocate as determined by the personality test. Advocates are the rarest personality types of all.  We are special because we leave our marks on the world and people never forget us. Advocates lead with integrity and idealism, but we never get caught up in daydreams. We plan out or goals and take steps to achieve them. I agree with the results and I believe it describes me and who I am as a person.  I have always been the person to stand up for what is right and live as morally correct as possible. I do not believe in bullying and I like to make people feel comfortable. I might not always agree with people, but I respect their opinions. I am a very empathetic person and I always try to put myself in other people’s shoes for better understanding I believe in uplifting people and being generous because everyone needs someone.

Advocates tend to be creative people; I am always able to find solutions to other people’s problems. I can tell people how to get from a-z and the steps to take to get the results they want. My friends always come to me with their problems because they say I give great advice and I am never judge mental no matter what they call me about. I also can see straight through people, so I see their true feelings and needs, and I respect them. I move by certain principles that I believe in and I stay true to them when I express them to people whether its through conversation or on pen and paper, I can translate everything that I feel accurately. Sometimes my passion can throw people off guard because I do not like to settle for a lot of things when it comes to education and careers, so some get offended because I always push for more for myself and other people. Although I am a go getter and I love achieving everything I set out to do I would never double cross anyone to get there. I always think about my actions and how they affect people and I pride myself on being an altruistic person. As strong as my strengths are, I also have weaknesses. Advocates tend to be sensitive to criticism, I must admit that when I feel strongly about someone or something and someone says something to challenge my feelings, I tend to be argumentative, and I do get upset. Even though I am a people’s person and people always gravitate to me I am also closed off and very guarded. I have a small circle of friends and a small circle of people I can trust. Most advocates are reluctant to open up to people.  I do feel like my strengths and weakness of my personality play out in my personal life and my work life.

I think that every company should make potential candidates take personality tests. I think personality test should be part of the screening process. Personality test can tell you a lot about a person. For instance, if a person does not have the personality where they are nurturers, have a lot of patience and like to care for people they are more than likely suck at being a nurse. I think your personality has a lot to do with your career choice for instance I am an access service representative who registers people in the emergency room. I interact with patients and I collect their demographics. I absolutely enjoy my job and I do with out any issues. My personality supports my job title. As an advocate I enjoy helping people and making them feel comfortable.  If my personality did not fit my career choice, I would not be able to do the job with sincerity. On my bad days it would show, and it would eventually get back to my supervisors that I had a bad attitude.

Retention Assignment

Retention Assignment

Although Harper enjoyed what she has done for many years she has reached a point where she no longer enjoys working for her current company. This is due to her former manager leaving the company and her new manager not being as supportive as the last. Harper is also working so hard that she does not have time for her personal life. Without a work/play balance Harper will become burnt out and then she will not be any good to her company.

David should meet with Harper and give her positive feedback on the work that she has been doing. He should also ask her what he can do to assist her and how can he help her moving forward. David should communicate that he may not be able to help her all the time, but he will try his best to help her so that she does not feel over worked. He should also keep her up to date on things involving her workload and help her prioritize what needs to be done first.

Harper enjoys doing what she does and has been with her company for three years. She is also experienced and able to do managerial work which is a great bonus to any organization. Although she is doing more then one job and is over worked losing her would mean you would have to replace two people. Most importantly the company will lose a dedicated employee who not only enjoys what she does but can move up throughout the years.

I think Harper would benefit from all the steps in the retention article. David following those steps will ensure that Harper not only feels respected and valued, but that she is part of a team with a supervisor who cares and wants to see her grow professionally.

MY COLOR

My Color so powerful and beautiful with tints of honey and gold

Scares people who don’t look like me

Who are afraid to understand that I am just like them?

My hair which can be course, curly or thick makes other cultures crazy and sick

They hold their purses when I come around and when I talk to them, they won’t even look at me

They stare at the ground, they whisper about the way that I strut with all these curves and a bigger butt

They say that I’m dumb and I can not comprehend even though I can read and write just like them

They say that I’m uworthless and can’t hold a job

Even though I have raised their ancestor’s children with love and sincerity

I have cleaned their homes and cooked them meals and sometimes been a body for a man to climb on against my will

But I guess when they don’t pay you it isn’t a job

I go into job interviews where they question my strengths as a woman

They ask if I’m married, if I’m a mother

They tell me am I willing to make a dollar short and a penny less.

My color so powerful and beautiful with tints of brown and caramel

They don’t understand what they can’t comprehend

For you are God sent

I choose to right a poem to express my feelings on equal rights legislation because I am a black woman living in America. Before woman had the right to work and be deemed equal as men Slavery existed. African Americans were treated like animals based off the color of their skin and even though times have gotten better racism still exists. In the movie On the Basis of Sex it follows Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s work to make woman equal in the work field. In those times woman were only recognized as house wives and their jobs were to maintain the children and the house hold. Woman were only recognized because of their husbands and respected because of them. Even though a woman had the same degree as a man and had the same qualifications to do the job they were never hired.

Ruth went to court and won a case for a man who cared for his elderly mom, he got in trouble for tax fraud because he was doing what was considered a woman’s job. She fought for the laws to be changed for the better of the future and was successful. The change was beneficial, but it was not fair to all. Woman of color did not have the same rights. We weren’t taken serious and weren’t respected as a race. For instance three African American woman who were considered human computers due to their extraordinary gift of numbers did not get the recognition for their major roles in helping the united states beat Russia in the space race when they worked for NASA. Until the Movie Hidden Figures came out they were hardly ever mentioned in History Books.

Times have changed and times have gotten a bit better for woman of color but we aren’t where we want to be. We are still called derogatory names and still looked down upon. We are denied jobs more then we would like to admit even when we meet the qualifications and we are shown that black lives do not always matter.
