Students are now virtual learning at home. I research The New York Times, and some students preferred to go back into the classroom. I spoke to my 15-year niece and asked her, and she told me that she misses school. She misses her friends, teachers, sports, and extracurricular activities. My nephew, who is seven, discovered that he enjoys getting to work at their own pace, setting his schedule, and being free from the school’s stressful environment. I feel this is a challenge of distance learning, from struggling to understand assignments and getting distracted to not having reliable internet.
I do believe that a school is a place for building friendships, learning responsibility, and getting to escape from the house. There also appears to be a lack of motivation to accomplish tasks because while they were in school, they have an hour and a half each day to get work done in class. Still, now students keep pushing assignments back until the last second, which definitely won’t benefit their work ethic in the upcoming year. I believe that some parents are concern about reopening school for safety reasons. They are concerned with getting sick or passing the virus to another person and infecting a family member. Some people think that wearing a mask is dumb and inconvenient. I think it is a matter of life and death. Covid-19 has been a headache for the United States of America. The virus has hit us hard as far as infections and death. The debate is we will go back to or will we stay home and learn virtually.
It was great to hear Mrs. Buckley presented her concern about this matter. I was on the pro-side of returning to in-person learning.  I listen to my classmate and their concern there is no right or wrong about this—the debate whether or not remote learning is better than attending school in person. Now, of course, at this time, it is advised to stay home. The risk of catching Covid-19 will decrease significantly by learning online. However, let’s say there wasn’t a pandemic for the sake of this claim and counterclaim. Would it be better if children were to receive education from a teacher and classroom, or behind computers? Would the mental health of those children deteriorate? In-person learning is far superior to virtual learning because this learning model provides an opportunity for learning social skills, improves motions, and can assist in creating solids friendship.
Firstly, almost all children and young adults need human interaction, words of encouragement, and physical activity. Although that does not mean this isn’t achievable at home, it’s better to have it in large amounts in most circumstances. Such as an entire classroom of people with who a student can get lost in interaction. And some classes just cannot be taught online. Science classes are a great example, as it is often necessary to complete a lab to understand the matter. That is impossible to do in most homes, making science extremely difficult for students to comprehend through a screen. They also have the opportunity to talk to teachers and counselors in real life if they’re having trouble with something. To understand that an instance like that isn’t life for everyone. More introverted individuals would learn better in an environment when they’re by themselves, and that’s when online learning would be more beneficial. It depends on one’s personality and ability to open up and come out of the shell.
One way to gain motivation for schoolwork is by creating connections deeper than surface level. When you have such a flexible schedule, you’re able to spend your time differently instead of attending class and studying. Who’s going to stop you from doing whatever you want when you’re home and have your schedule. Having friends and family there in real life is a great way to encourage you. Being at school gives you a fantastic opportunity to meet new people as well make new friends. There are many ways why in-person learning is beneficial to kids and young adults, but there are also many ways to do school from home. It all depends on your preferences and capabilities. An in-person school is more accessible because it improves students’ mental health and social skills. It also lets them have better motivation and potential to make possible life-lone friendships. Though, again, it depends on preference. I am anxious to get back to school and foster my love of learning through my peers.

The Covid-19 is a severe issue nowadays. It is spreading very quickly into every corner of the world. It has negatively affected small and other forms of businesses worldwide. The business people are busy taking corrective actions for this risk. People should consider the company’s employees, mediators, and customers to eliminate this risk in business. One of the new risks companies face now that was not thought of in prior years is the Coronavirus. The Coronavirus pandemic has made a blow to the U.S. economy since the incomparable melancholy.

Companies need to now focus on their employees and what changed going into effect.

1- Temporary work plan: Simply it means work from home”. There are many tools in the business that are used in and out of the plant. The employees can use these tools for doing their jobs. Business people can communicate or contact the employees through email, phone calls, and other contacting methods. By doing these jobs regularly, the employees can maintain their responsibility towards their business.

2- Reduce meeting: By reducing appointments, business people can eliminate the chance of being affected by this COVID-19. They conduct meetings online. I t is more convenient than a traditional type of meeting.

3-Transparency in communication with customers: Both employees and customers are facing this virus together. So it is more suitable that both businessmen and customers should behave transparently. A transaction should be based on utmost good faith. Every people should be careful in this time wash their hands frequently. Avoid handshakes. The company can reduce the spread of the virus by reducing the number of meetings or should eliminate the conference these days. I suggest there be a complete lockdown. At this time, the business should focus more on online sales. It will reduce the chance of spread. By using deals online, we can create a personal relationship with the customers. It will positively influence your sales in the future.

4- Business Insurance: I prefer every company must take an insurance policy. It will help then reduce the risk. Risk is the uncertainty of loss. It can be met by taking an insurance policy. Planning for the long term would start a plan for the future. It will help you enhance your businesses and increase your productivity in the future.

There are some opportunities for new companies in the future. It mainly concentrated in two areas, that is 1) medical field and 2) economy field. Nowadays, the medical spectrum in preventing Covid-19—the use of medical masks, gloves, etc. are should face high necessity in the future. At this time, hand sanitizers and ventilators are the most wanted items. It will have greater demand in the coming days. In the economic field, now some governments are offered low-interest loans for reconstructing their economy. New companies can acquire these loans for their business. It will help you in the future. U.S. government proclaimed that they are ready to provide unlimited short-term finance to business persons for reconstructing the economy.

The new threat will affect many people returning to work. The business of purifies, masks, and sanitizers has been on the trend—the use of robots in the supply chain and auto cars in delivering goods. Many may struggle at first with working from home. As time goes by, they will get the hang of it. I t is a massive risk of computing in the subway also returning to the workplace, but the company assures the worker that they’re keeping the work area clean. As virus cases have grown, many businesses have begun closing offices and stores and sending workers home to help slow the spread.

   Providing healthcare for our employees is of utmost priority. It is our duty as the Human Resource team to protect our employees and give them appropriate benefits. When it comes to distributing healthcare, there are several human resources challenge that we face in particular. First and foremost, healthcare costs are skyrocketing. With the escalating costs of healthcare and other benefits, we are having trouble finding ways to manage health coverage costs with the overall benefits program. It has come the time we start to reassess and redefine how we distribute our healthcare plans.

Along with increased costs, there is an issue with age distribution. As we know, people live longer as the generations advance, so we have increased demand for health services among aging populations. Older employees become increasingly concerned about their healthcare benefits as those healthcare services become more relevant to them. They are at higher health risks due to their age, and therefore, with the growing population of aged employees, healthcare benefits are in more demand and far more crucial than before, and unfortunately, it will cost a lot. That is why people make their decision based on the types of benefits that companies have to offer.

The company that I research is Amazon. Amazon cares for the best employees by giving them many benefits that can have performance work more beneficiaries. Like other companies, amazon pays meager cash compensation even though it makes up for this through services. This company is an upward communication since Amazon cares about the feeling and the opinion of their employees. It also has horizontal transmission, where the employees share information and resolve conflict to have a better place and productive work and has an innovative culture. It is a very flexible company for workers with work schedules. The perks of being an Amazon employee are in the benefits. Amazon work with full-time employees, part-time employees, and even seasonal employees. Amazon’s compensation strategy is highly competitive compared to the compensation strategies of competing firms. While collaborating with people who have great expertise in multiple areas, the company offers a wide variety of benefits to that employee who are regular and full-time United States employees. The services given to Amazon employees are aim at facilitating growth and development. The company has medical plan options for flexibility purposes and so that employees can choose the medical plan that is best suited for them and their families. Amazon also provides a network of support as part of its benefits package. This support network aims to show that they care about the employee’s wellbeing both at work and away from work. The support benefits network is provided free of charge to the employees to make their lives better. Amazon pays its employees significantly lower than other tech giants such as Google. The company rakes in a large number of profits annually, and that employees who are aware of these financial records expect a bit more in terms of compensation. I talk about Amazon because I research this company. I read about Google and compare it with Amazon, and the best company to work for is Google. 

Three benefits appeal to me. The first benefits are tuition assistance programs which pay up to $12,000 per year. I believe further your education is the key to success in the company. The second benefit is the 20% time policy. Google gives their employees the chance to go out and invest their time into a project. It is a learning experience with something else that will spark creativity within the company. You never too old to learn more about the company. It turns out a lot of the side projects have turned into something much bigger. This will saves money. The free rides work for me; I don’t have to deal with the subway transportation being so over crowed and the smell is unbearable. I will also take the lower rate, which lowers the tax brackets in the long run. Zappos also has benefits programs that you don’t want to turn down. I believe these perks are sustainable because they will add to costs in the net profits in the company.

Harper Jones- Retention Assignment

  • What do you think is the most demotivating part of Harper’s job?

The most demotivating factor of Harper’s position is that her boss has left the organization. Harper works with Jose for the past four years. They had a good work relationship. He was guiding her since the time she has joined the organization. Jose leaving, she has lost the guidance and support provided by him. The communication level with David, her new boss, is limited, and though her work has increased, she does not feel involved or values. He has assigned her more duties overburdening her and left her with very little time to balance work and personal life. I could relate to Harper because I, too, feel overwhelmed in my job. I think that the simple problem that most businesses overlook they don’t check on their employee. They don’t ask what their workload is or how they are doing. The employees help run the business. Lack of communication means Lack of productiveness. Lack of productiveness means no raise and loss of revenue because of customer retention. The organization knows motivated, engaged employees are essential, but most fail to hold managers accountable for making it happen.

  • If you were an HR manager meeting with Harper’s supervisor, David, what advice would you give to help them re-engage Harper?As the HR manager, I would advise Harper’s supervisor David to create communication channels and prioritize helping Harper feel valued. David should spare some time weekly to share with Jones by providing constructive feedback to prioritize work schedules and feel part of the team. He can also give feedback on the positives and negatives to acknowledge her contribution and make her feel that she an essential part of the team. David should review her workload and responsibilities and distribute some workload to other team members giving her time and space to manage her effectively. Additionally, he can offer her a revised pay package to compensate for the extra duties and reinforce her efforts in helping the company achieve its objectives. Lastly, he should positively support her role in the team by recognizing her contribution to the team. David should also give her a promotion and a raise for taking all that responsibilities. Human Resources is supposed to take care of the concerns of the employees. They have to provide them with necessary benefits and timely training and appraise them from time to time to keep them loyal to the company. So, it would appear to make sense that when companies recognize their workers with an award, they will likely to boost morale and maybe even inspire them to work harder. “Employee of the Month” awards given out to increase confidence and encourage them to work harder.
  • What would be the downside of losing Harper as an employee?

 The downside of losing Harper as an employee would be that the company would have to find a new employee and train the employee to adapt to the company culture and work style. The activity of hiring a unique individual would consume time, effort mad resources. The company would have to invest time in finding appropriate aid and train them to perform their duties. She has to have a good understanding of the organization, and her work style is ideally suited to the organization. Harper joined the organization immediately after graduating and has been completing her role for the past four years. The new employee may not adapt quickly to the work culture the company may find it challenging to find a suitable resource with matching competence levels. I feel money may not be at the heart of an employee’s decision to leave, and it will cost the company money, resources, and skills when the top performers go. I think losing employees is expensive and can often be prevented. Understanding the cost of an employee’s departure to your company and the real reasons employees leave will help you prevent it.

The following from Eight Effective Retention Strategies would help Harper in this situation.

Personality Test Assignment

The Personality Test revealed that I possess a Protagonist Personality ENFJ-A/ENFJ-T. The results suggest that I am a natural-born leader full of passion and a great deal of pride and joy in guiding others to work together to improve themselves. I agree with this because I am always reaching out and inspiring others to achieve and do well by going back to school and getting that degree. I do feel that I have a lot of passion and drive. I love to see others bettering themselves and provide them with the tools to do so.

The Protagonists individual also finds it natural and easy to communicate with others and possesses reliable, tolerant and charismatic characteristics. It states that Protagonist Personality types care very much for people and tend to model their goals and ambitions after helping people. I believe that was extremely accurate for me as I would like to spend my entire life helping people in any way I can. I was amazed I received the protagonist personality type. I always knew I wanted to help people, although I never depicted myself as the leader the test illustrates. I agree that I can easily talk to people, although I don’t believe that I would lead a large group successfully on my own. While reading about my personality has taught me not to be afraid if I can lead a large group, I can motivate many people and even rally a team.

I learned that there are many positive attributes to my personality. I am very passionate and charismatic. I have a strong ability to lead those around me. My character thrives best when I am put into a position to inspire those around me; I can honestly say that I am one of the most straightforward people you could ever meet. I communicate my thoughts and feeling well. I enjoy bringing people into the fold. These traits will serve me well in the business.

In taking the personality test, my weaknesses are getting involved in a person’s life, of whom I believe. I am too genuine, and people may feel like they can take advantage of me. Although, I may inspire people. My personality tends to push boundaries and thresholds of what people are capable of, and I tend to transpose other people’s problems and limitations and take them on as my own. While reflecting on these negative traits, I can see how they could become a pitfall in my future career plans. I will probably be responsible for shouldering significant burdens, but I must remember that I cannot take their problem upon myself. It is perfectly alright to help someone without allowing their pain to consume me.

I do not think personality tests are an effective way to determine if a candidate is right for a role. However, I find this unproductive as contestants often. They could very well lie on the quiz so that their personality fits perfectly for the job. Personality tests are useful for collecting data, but formal testing or interviewing can inadvertently motivate candidates to answer questions based on what they think the organization wants to hear, not based on how they feel. I believe it is imperative that instead of relying and being stuck on personality tests because they could sometimes be inaccurate, people should realize their strengths and weaknesses and make the best decisions for themselves based on that. Reading the unit and taking the test myself has allowed me to break down and fully understand emotions and personality and has led to so many possible research and question.

I enjoyed having Annie Stankevich and Tiffany Suarez in our class session on Feb 23,2021. They shared with us of how to create a LinkedIn account and populate it with professional information.

I like how she shared with me about her father being in a company for 30 years and was lay off. I took this advice very seriously because I ‘m in the company for so many years. I am pursing my degrees so I know I have to prepare myself when I go out there. She gave me useful tips and advice and what required  for the role I wish to be hired for.

        “On The Basis of Sex’’ is a biographical legal film that tackles the early cases of Ruth Ginsburg. It contains her true story, struggles for equal rights and early cases that lead to her nomination and confirmation as US Supreme Court Associate Justice. Ruth Ginsburg made history as a Supreme Court Justice that is a very hard tasks to obtain. She was the reasoning for the changes in women voting, women rights, and women quality, the end result of the feminine movement.

        In 1956, Ruth Ginsburg was a first year law student at Harvard. From the opening of the movie, the dean was always addressing the ‘ men of Harvard’ and it is also noticeable that only a few women were there. The dinner scene and the recitation with the class made it clear that there was discrimination among sex happening. After graduating top of her class, many firms had taken her down because they don’t want a female in the position. Therefore, she considers becoming a professor teaching “Sex Discrimination and the Law”. With these events in her life, the discrimination that she experiences made it possible for her to start advocacy.

In 1970 ,where her husband brought to her a tax law case.  It caught her attention the case Moritz’s V Commissioner where Charles Moritz, a bachelor was denied having tax deduction for nursing his mother. Ruth was very interesting in this case. The only reason the tax deduction was not given was due to Mr. Moritz’s sex. Ruth took the case and fight the discrimination. She is not only fighting for discrimination that she experienced but also stands for others to achieve justice and equality.

As watching the film I believe women can do anything if they have the courage and passion to do things they want. A person regardless of gender should be treated equally and does not allow others to drag them down. People should learn and accept the fact that the world is changing, for what is normal before may not be normal now. Men and Women are equal in every profession or field. I am favor of the gender quality in social legislation. The law should not favor any groups because the law is made to govern people. Justice and equality should be served for it promotes a great nation.
