Week 1 – Portfolio (Step 1)

Hi, I’m Mary Paulino. I’m passionate about digital design, illustration, and multimedia storytelling. My favorite projects involve creating logos, posters, and packaging that combine creativity with clear communication. I enjoy experimenting with layouts and typography to craft designs that are both meaningful and visually appealing. My goal is to build a career developing visual content for campaigns and media projects, especially in areas that inspire creative storytelling.

This portfolio features a selection of my past work and drafts of new pieces. There are a lot of other pieces I plan on adding and would like to add, and will continue refining. The “About Me” section and “project descriptions” are not yet finalized, but there is a rough draft of them here.

I’m interested in becoming a UI/UX Designer, but I’ve discovered that I really enjoy graphic design. Understanding its principles is extremely helpful to become any kind of designer. I made this portfolio format a long time ago and I’ve lazily kept it updated every time I have new projects by just placing them in the categories. I would like to reorganize and reprioritize what I’m showing. Many of these projects were some of the first things I ever tried to make so a lot of it may not represent what I’m capable of now well. Early on I was also not great at documenting my process so I would like to add a lot more detail for exactly what it was that I was doing at the time and how I created the pieces. Most importantly I’ve made more games and some animations in recent classes that I would like to incorporate.

I would like to add additional projects from last semester which include a multimedia project and some ux design work. Overall I want to work on adding better descriptions for the projects I’m keeping and remove some things from my portfolio that aren’t my strongest work. Basically I want to reorganize and refresh my whole portfolio.

This is a link to my portfolio website. I want to improve my ‘about me’ section so that it’s more personalized but still includes my goals as a designer. I’m also thinking about removing one of my projects (the one about the solar panel company), as it’s a weaker project in comparison to my personal projects. I also want to add more subtle illustrations in my website. Lastly, I think my footer could use improvement.

I would like to improve the written descriptions for each project. Right now, many works are presented mainly as visuals with short explanations. I plan to expand these descriptions to clearly explain the goals of each project, the process behind them, the challenges I faced, and the solutions I developed. My entire site has a huge layout/formatting issue and it’s just too big on desktop, so I’ll be changing that. I should make it have a clear interface and add new descriptions for a few of my classwork and personal projects.
My goal is to add more artworks with backgrounds this year for my portfolio.
