Week 14 – Assessment + final presentation

  • By next week, submit your teammate evaluation form and self-contribution form. These should be send to me via email at: apinkas@bmcc.cuny.edu. I will not share this information with your team members or anyone else in the class.
  • For next week, create and rehearse your final presentation as a group. Make sure it is clearly named (i.e: NameofTeam_finalPresentation) and upload it to your team folder. Each group will present to the class next time we meet. Be ready to offer feedback to your classmates.

Wee 11-13 – Production + Portfolio

  • Work on your campaign project. Be ready to show and discuss your work in progress in small groups with the professor each week. A full prototype of each component should be completed by week 14. That week will be dedicated to assessing the group work, preparing the final presentations and doing a few small adjustments. 
  • For week 14, create a post with a link to your revised portfolio. If you are working on a custom HTML/CSS/JS site it’s okay to just send the local files for now (via a Google Drive or Dropbox link). *Use the title format “[FirstName] [LastName] final portfolio” and select the Category “Week 13 – Final Portfolio”

Week 8 – Style guide

  • For next week, select the colors you will be using. You may use one of the tools listed above to come up with a palette. Specify which one will be the dominant color. If your campaign project includes a website with text, navigation etc. specify which color will be used for what design element (background, paragraphs, headers, links etc.).
  • Also select the font(s) you will be using for your project (maximum 3). If your campaign project includes a website with text, navigation etc. specify which font will be used for what design element (background, paragraphs, headers, links etc.).
  • Create a style guide (you may use this template or create your own) to share your typography and color choices. Clearly name your file (i.e: TeamName_styleGuide_date) and place it in your shared folder.

Week 7 – Text & sketches

  • Write all the text you will need for your project in a Word or Google document. Clearly label and separate the different sections/media the text will be used for. Clearly name the file (i.e: NameofTeam_text).
  • Start sketching the different components of your campaign. Clearly name the files (i.e: NameofTeam_logo_date)
  • Place all the documents above in your shared folder. 

Week 6 – Persona, Creative Brief, Task Analysis

  • Create at least 2 personas (per group) that will serve as examples for your campaign’s target audience. Use this template and look at the finished example. Make sure it is clearly named (i.e: NameofTeam_persona1). 
  • Fill the creative brief template with your group. Make sure it is clearly named (i.e: NameofTeam_creativeBrief_date)
  • Fill the task analysis document with your group. Make sure it is clearly named (i.e: NameofTeam_taskAnalysis_date)
  • Place all these documents in your shared folder.

Week 5 – Workshop III

Create a simple HTML page with your favorite poem or an excerpt from your favorite song lyrics. Make sure to use different tags (i.e: h1 for title, p for paragraphs etc.). Link the HTML page to an external CSS page and style the page. The styling should include at least: 1 Google font, background color, text color, text-size, margin, and padding.

Upload the HTML and CSS files to a Google Drive or Dropbox folder and post a link to it on Open Lab * Use the title format “[FirstName] [LastName] workshop I ” and select the Category “Week 5 – Workshop III”

Week 5 – Workshop II

Promote ONE of the following opinions by creating an Instagram post (you don’t have to post it – just design it)

  • Diets and so-called “wellness” programs are financially and emotionally costly. One can be happy and healthy at any size and no food should be demonized. 
  • Processed food and sugar is killing you. Clean eating will drastically increase your mental and physical well-being.

You may use text, images, animated gifs, and/or video. Pay attention to the file format (images should be 1080px * 1080px, stories 1920px * 1080px). Don’t forget to use hashtags and a caption (please make sure to include the full text in your submission). Make sure there are no spelling or grammar errors.

Post a link to your work (media AND caption) on Open Lab. * Use the title format “[FirstName] [LastName] workshop II ” and select the Category “Week 5 – Workshop II”

Week 3 – Portfolio (revisions)

Revise the text, revise your selection of projects, re-export images if necessary and pick a platform. Create a post with a link to your revisions. * Use the title format “[FirstName] [LastName] portfolio revisions and select the Category “Week 3 – Portfolio (revisions)”

Week 2 – Team folders

  • Set up a shared Google Drive, Dropbox (instructions for claiming your free account can be found here: https://www.cuny.edu/about/administration/offices/cis/technology-services/dropbox/trainingresources/) or Github folder for your team to share all the work you will be creating for the campaign project. Create a post with a link to it. ** Use the title format “[Team name] – folder” and select the Category “Week 2 – Team folder”
  • Fill and sign the team contract. (1 form per group). Upload it in your team folder. Make sure it is clearly named (i.e: NameofTeam_contract_date)
  • Create and rehearse your pitch deck as a group. Upload it in your team folder. Make sure it is clearly named (i.e: NameofTeam_pitchDeck_date). Each group will present to the class next time we meet. Be ready to offer feedback to your classmates. 

Week 1 – Portfolio (Step 1)

Gather, organize and describe (see Portfolio checklist section on week1 of the class website) the projects you want to feature in your portfolio. Make sure each file has a meaningful name (i.e: NOT untitled1.jpg). Create a Word or Google Doc document for the descriptions and “About” section (case study is optional). Everything should be placed in a single folder and shared via URL in the Reply box of this discussion.

If you are already using an online platform for your portfolio, you may submit the URL instead of the folder described above. Make sure each piece has a description. Include any piece that currently isn’t on your site and that you are thinking of adding.

This is the first step of the portfolio assignment (worth 15% of your total grade – see grading rubric here). In the coming weeks, you will edit and format your work. The final version is due on week 14. You will be asked to show progress on this project throughout the semester.

Week 1: Personality Lists

Step 1: Create a post with the following lists:

  • List four things you like to do
  • List four of your favorite movies
  • List four of your favorite singers/bands
  • List four words that describe your personality

Step 2: View everyone else’s posts and look for classmates who have similar answers as you. Make a note of at least 4 of these classmates and what you have in common.

Step 3: Pick at least 4 of the classmates you found commonalities with and comment on their post by clicking on the Comment button at the bottom of their post. The content of the comment should be what the commonality is and add a little information about this common interest. Enter a total of four discussion posts for four other students (not the same student twice).
