Midterm Check-Ins

dear all,
I sent each one of you a personalized email with an update on how you’re doing in this class, what assignments you are missing, and any other pressing issues. This email went to your BMCC email address. Please be sure to check it and let me know if you have  any questions.

AND, if you have not yet signed up to meet with me, please do so right away. I added some more times. You can find the schedule here

See you tomorrow at 2pm!

New feature on the site- you can see all your posts by clicking on your name!

You will see that on the right column of the site, there is now a category that says “Authors.” (See image below.)

If you click on the drop-down menu, you will see a list of your names. If you click on any author, you will then see a list of all of the posts written by the person. This is a way to get to all  your writing in one place.

Thanks to Melody for sharing that this would be helpful! I hope everyone can feel free to ask or let me know about things that would make the site more workable for you.

MIDTERM CHECK-IN

You will receive an email from me in the next week to let you know what assignments you are missing and any other important information about class expectations. Please keep an eye out for this email!  You are also welcome to set up a time to talk with me about assignments or any other issues related to our class.

Zines!

We talked for a minute today about zines, a form of self-publishing that has been used by many feminist/cultural movements  to circulate ideas, art, information. Barnard College has a digital collection of zines that you may want to explore, here

You may want to consider making a zine for your final project!

BMCC’s Library is hosting a free zine-making workshop on Monday from 3-4:30pm. More information here

Annabeth shared information about the NYC Feminist Zine Fest

Alex told us about a new movie, Moxie, that centers around an anonymous zine– I’m planning to watch it! If you do, too, we can talk about it.

Final Project TASKS/ TO DO

hi all! I hope reviewing the assignment today was helpful. We will take it one step at a time.  If you want to look at the instructions, you can find them on the Final Project page under “Assignments” on our Open Lab site here.

These are the three things to do as soon as possible.

  1. DUE ASAP: Proposal.Write a short proposal (~2-3 paragraphs) in which you state:
    • which form you will be working in (memoir or manifesto)
    • initial ideas about the themes or issues that you want to engage: what do you already know about and what do you want to explore?
    • if you already know: what form will you work in (an essay, or something else?)
    •  You can write your proposal as a post on our course site and select “PROPOSAL” as your category. You can make it private. Either way, my feedback to you will be private.
  2. You can sign up for the one required meeting with me here
  3. You can sign up for your class presentation here

Set up a time to meet with Prof. Soniya about your final project!

We will talk more about the final project in class today– but in the meantime, please DO sign up for a meeting with me. The meeting is required and will be a chance for us to talk 1:1 about your work.

Everyone needs to meet with me by April 13 so make sure to sign up TODAY so you get a slot before the deadline!

DUE TOMORROW! PROPOSAL FOR FINAL PROJECT

Proposal (due 3/23)

My suggestion is to look at your discussion board posts and/or Essay #1 and/or any notes you have taken in class and/or the readings/materials + ask yourself: what’s sparking your interest? What are you feeling excited or curious about? What do you want to say?

Write a short proposal (~2-3 paragraphs) in which you state:

      • which form you will be working in (memoir or manifesto)
      • initial ideas about the themes or issues that you want to engage: what do you already know about and what do you want to explore?
      • if you already know: what form will you work in (an essay, or something else?)
      • DUE DATE: TUESDAY MARCH 23. You can write your proposal as a post on our course site and select “PROPOSAL” as your category. You can make it private. Either way, my feedback to you will be private.

And, remember:

      • Sign up for a meeting with me before April 16 here
