  • The artist from the exhibit whose work inspired you and why.

I was inspired by Ashley Bryan, who drew the Flower Garden on the Patio, 2020. I really liked this piece and how he mentioned freedom and how it reminded him of back home.

  • The medium you chose to use (i.e., drawing, painting, sculpting, collage).

I drew this with color pencils because its easier to get more detail and it helps to be exact

  • What your art represents and why it is important to you.

Since the artist that inspired me spoke about his family and how he thought of back home. I thought about my mom and how she has plants all around our house. She keeps getting more and more and when I think of plants I think of her. She’s even mentioned how she wants me to keep taking care of them even after she’s gone. I love this piece and my mom and I just really connected with it, as it reminded me of her.

Self- Portrait

For my portrait, I used markers and pencil. I first got a picture i liked of myself of my birthday last year and then I zoomed in and drew details I saw. I outlined everything in pencil and then colored in a couple of my features with marker. I think I did a good job looking similar to me, although not perfect! I didn’t color in my hair or skin because I didn’t think it would stand out on the colored paper I used and I wanted everyone to be able to see the detail!
