At the end of the semester you will help to determine your grade for ECE 209 based on your Self-Assessment of what you have learned. In preparation for your Self-Assessment, answer the questions below; you will answer these questions at the end of each module so you have a record of what you have learned over the semester. You can answer the questions here on Open Lab or create a journal on Blackboard (which would be private).
- What did you learn in this week’s modules for ECE 209-Lecture and Seminar?
- Information/ knowledge
- Skills
- Insights (connections you made or “ah-ha’s” you had about the material)
- How will the material from these modules better prepare you to work with infants?
What pulled most my attention in this module is the fetal programming/ fetal origins theory, and how the mother’s health and well being during pregnancy can affect the child cognitive, emotion, and physical development in a positive way. On the other hand, the mother’s stress level during pregnancy can damage their cognitive, emotion, and physical development in a negative way. This information will help me understand developmental milestones in depth, when working with infants/toddlers.
One of the things that I learned about this week was the different things that mothers should avoid while being pregnant so the baby can learn how to deal with mental health and cognitive issues healthily and make sure that the baby doesn’t develop any health issues in their lives. This information will help me get prepared to work with infants by me having a clear understanding of the development milestones that children will experience at the infant/toddler stages.
This weeks module was very interesting . I was mostly interested in the 6 stages of development . As a parent of a 6 year old i was able to connect some of the stages to my own life . I learned that while caring for my child and helping her grow into her on person i was also changing and developing myself . It also prepared me for what is to come when my child gets older and when i begin working with infants. I learned more about the different stages children go through and how i can support them in their different stages.
For this week modules for ECE209-Lecture and seminar would be that their has been research made on fetal development that it can cause stress that have long lasting consequences on physical and mental health. An example from the article would be when babies are exposed to high maternal they produced a larger cortisol that they receive in the hospital after birth. Also learned that during pregnancy the mother shouldn’t stress much because it can high consequences on the baby. The material from these modules will prepare me to work with infants because it’s showing me different stages babies go through and it will help me give them that support.
The fetal programming and the fetal origins theory is what really captured my attention and what should a mother do because her health and her pregnancy can affect the child’s cognitive, emotions, and physical development. If the mother is in stress it can affect her pregnancy and her child. This can help me understand a lot more when working with infants and toddlers.
In this week’s modules for ECE 209- lecture and seminar I learnt how fundamental the fetal period is towards the development of the baby. Learning starts inside the womb. Attachments are form between baby and mother during this period, shaping also what the child eats, the languages they speak etc.
I also learn different ways to contact Jen in case I’m having any problems and what is required to pass this course successfully .
My ah-ha’s moments was the learning and connections actually start at an earlier developing stage.
The material from these modules will prepare me to better work with infants because it improve my knowledge
This material from these modules will prepare me to better work with infants because it improve my knowledge on how they develop and understanding that will help me better care for them
In this weeks module for ECE 209- Lecture/Seminar I learned about the fetal programming/ fetal origins theory and how the mother’s health can effect her during her pregnancy but also effect the Child’s cognitive development/physical development and what mothers should avoid while being pregnant. I think that this information will help me better when i work with infants because it has helped me gain a ton of knowledge on the development stages and what impacts those stages as I step into my career and it will also help me understand how to care for infants and toddlers and what type of support I can give them.
What I learned in this week’s module for ECE 209-Lecture and Seminar was that stress can affects a baby while it develops and grow up. It could affect the child cognitive, emotion and physical development. Also that a baby starts grasping onto things when they are in the womb. The material I learned in this module will help be better understand how to care for infants/toddlers.
What caught my attention was fetal programming / fetal theory because I learned what mothers should do to prevent their babies from having health problems in the future and how important it is to have a smooth pregnancy because stress can affect the physical, mental, and cognitive development of the child. This information will help me become more prepared to work with infants/toddlers and understand their development.
After exploring the Open Lab site and reading the Syllabus, Assignment Guidelines, Policies, and Course Guide for ECE 209-Lecture, I got an extended insight of the requirements of ECE 209 Lecture and Seminar. I learned how to reply my classmate’s comments, the due dates to present my projects and papers, how and when I can reach my professor and what should I do if I have a technical issue with Open Lab. Also, after reading the Prenatal & Parental by Davis & Thompson and feeling out the handout, I learned about the fetal programing theory and how the fetal exposure to the COVID pandemic can impact in different ways on the later health and development of babies. In addition, the TED talk “What we learn before we’re born” by Annie Murphy Paul was very interesting, something that caught my attention was the fact that a mother who suffer from a post-traumatic stress syndrome can pass a vulnerable condition to her children. However, when the baby is born, he/she can give quick responses to danger, because even before birth, mothers are warning their children that it is a wild world out there. Finally, I learned about the impact that factors and sociocultural context (economic hardship, religion, politics, neighborhoods) have in parenting behaviors.
What I’ve learned from this week’s module for ECE 209 Seminar and ECE 209 Lecture is the fetal programming/ fetal origins theory. It provides different ways on how the mother’s health during pregnancy can affect the child cognitive, emotional, and physical development in a positive way and or negative. I found this to be an ah-ha moment for me because I wasn’t so knowledgeable on it and it made sense to me why some people miscarry and deal with so much stress. It’s depressing and sucks but I learned something new.
This information will help me get prepared to work with infants because I have an understanding of the development milestones that children will experience at the infant/toddler stages.

What I learned in this week’s module for ECE 209-Lecture and Seminar was the fetal programming/ fetal origins theory. I explored the Open Lab site and reading the Syllabus, Assignment Guidelines, Policies, and Course Guide for ECE 209-Lecture I understand what needs to be required of me. Also how to reply to classmates and review my grades. I learned about different ways on how the mother’s health during pregnancy can affect the child cognitive, emotional, and physical development in a positive way and or negative.
I reviewed this activity 3/16
I learned about fetal programming and how infants are affected by their environment prior to being born. This was my A-ha moment.
I think I will be better prepared to work with infants after learning about the developmental stages.
