Module 10: Assignment #4: Self Reflection

At the end of the semester you will determine your grade for ECE 209 based on your self-assessment of what you have learned. In preparation for your self-assessment, answer the questions below; you will answer these questions at the end of each module so you have a record of what you have learned over the semester. You can answer the questions here on Open Lab or create a journal on Blackboard (which would be private).

  • What did you learn in this module?
    • Information/ knowledge
    • Skills
    • Insights (connections you made or “ah-ha’s” you had about the material)
  • How will the material from this module better prepare you to work with infants?

Answer: In this module I learned about Piaget and Vygotsky theory which piaget proposed that children progress through the stages of cognitive development through maturation, discovery methods, and some social transmissions through assimilation and accommodation. Vygotsky theory stressed the importance of culture and language on one’s cognitive development. Also about Shape shooters and how they help develop a child in math. Helps children identify and organize visual information

  2. In this module i learn about Piaget and Vygotsky. Piaget believed that children learn best when they are are learning and doing things by themselves. And Vygotsky much learning takes place when children play. and he believed that language and development build each other. I learn that books/songs help infants/toddlers recognize, listen, observe, and repeat relationships and can be introduce to number concepts

  3. In this module I learned how many activities like books, and blocks can help even infants with math. It helps their development on math by having the infants recognize and repeat from looking at numbered blocks, the colors, and even songs in a book.

In this module I learned about theorist Piaget and Vygotsky and the differences between the two in child development. Piaget believes that children develop by self-taught and what is expected from an infant throughout the ages and their stages in life. Vygotsky believes children develop through nurture and support from their caregivers. I also learned the materials that can be used in my future classroom to help kids develop mathematical logics. That is one thing that I could use to help me prepare me to work with infant, the different materials that can be used to teach kids math while creating a fun environment.

In this module this week I learned that is never too early to introduce math to children. I learned that believe it or not Math is equally as important as all the other areas of development. I feel like not a lot of caregivers (speaking for myself LOL) take Math seriously. This is my thinking because Math always has been difficult and looking back maybe it would have been easier if I was introduced to Math language. This material has better prepared me to work with infants because I will make sure that Math language is being used equally around the classroom just like everything else.

  6. In this module I learned that there’s a lot of objects one can use for activities to improve the children’s development. This will be very helpful in the future because it shows that children are open minded when it comes to learning and doing activities that catches their attention.
