Module 8 Physical Development Assignment #4: Self-Reflection

At the end of the semester you will develop a Self-Assessment of what you have learned which will help to determine your grade for ECE 209. In preparation for your Self-Assessment, answer the questions below; you will answer these questions at the end of each module so you have a record of what you have learned over the semester. You can answer the questions here on Open Lab or create a journal on Blackboard (which would be private).

  • What did you learn in the modules for ECE 209-Lecture and Seminar?
    • Information/ knowledge
    • Skills
    • Insights (connections you made or “ah-ha’s” you had about the material)
  • How will the material from these module better prepare you to work with infants?

Answer: In this module i learned about pshyical development of a child and why it is important. it is important promotes healthy growth and development. It helps build a healthier body composition, stronger bones and muscles. children who have higher levels of physical activity during their childhood are likely to be more active even after they mature. this is important for better health and well-being.

  2. In this module I learned that the popular ‘walker’ to help improve infants motor skills isn’t really effective. Infants learn better by being in an environment where they are able to look around, crawl, and reach for local objects that they are interested in. Being there for infants, but not forcing them in a place of space in hopes it make it easier for their motor skills to develop faster.

  3. In this module i learn that infants learn best when they are crawling, reaching for objects, being able to look around freely in their environment, playing with toys and so forth help with their fine and gross development. Also learned about natural rhythms vs. set schedules. And what self-knowledge, reflective thinking, cultural sensitivity, and culturally informed teaching means.

  4. In this week module I learned about physical movement of a child plays an important role in their development. Allowing a child to explore around a classroom sitting alone helps them to be physically active and when they get older they will be capable of doing a lot of activities.

  5. This week I learned that physical development plays a big and important role in a child’s life. A child needs a space to move and learn, lack of activities will delay their growth and abilities to develop effectively. This will help me in the future as a caregiver because I will always have in mind to keep children active and ready to explore and experience.

  6. In this weeks ECE lecture and seminar I learned two different and important topics. I learned how we as teachers can support an infants physical development and the tactics/activities we can incorporate to do so as well as how important it is for a baby to always be moving. I also go insight on the cultural aspect of infants and their families and how it is vital to have self-knowledge, reflective thinking, cultural sensitivity, or culturally informed teaching in the classroom.

In this week modules I have learned the importance of letting infants and young children in general to move and explore while having caregivers and parents as guides. Before this week I have heard mentioned the importance of moving but because I have not had any experience with infants I really do not know what ways does this benefit them. The readings truly gave me a better understanding and examples of simple activity that promote physical development.
2)How will the material from these module better prepare you to work with infants?
These materials will better prepare me to work with infants because I will know what activity I can introduce or be playing with them. I will be able to look at these milestones and understand if the child is “developing” appropriately and if I should be communicating with parents or not.

  8. This weeks module I learned how a baby achieves their movements. Babies depend a lot on us to be able to learn how to walk. They’re development is greatly impacted upon those who care for them. Although babies are expected to development by stages in their age, they’re milestones happen with the hard work and the time us caregivers put in.
