At the end of the semester you will help to determine your grade for ECE 209 based on your Self-Assessment of what you have learned. In preparation for your Self-Assessment, answer the questions below; you will answer these questions at the end of each module so you have a record of what you have learned over the semester. You can answer the questions here on Open Lab or create a journal on Blackboard (which would be private).
- What did you learn in this week’s modules for ECE 209-Lecture and Seminar?
- Information/ knowledge
- Skills
- Insights (connections you made or “ah-ha’s” you had about the material)
- How will the material from these modules better prepare you to work with infants?

Answer: In this module I learned about different types of social development. How certain children may act at a certain age. I also learn how to use their social behavior in situation and turn it into something positive, learning how to give good suggestions and recommendations for the parents and also to the child. I can use this information in the healthcare world and see if my patients are able to speak to me clearly, why they behavior is a certain why and also speak to the parents to let them know what they can ooo at home to help tase behavior issues.
In this week modules I learned about social development refers to the process which a child learns to interact with others around them. As they develop and perceive their own individuality , they also gain skills to communicate with others, interact, recognize and experience their emotions.
These materials can help me better prepare me to work with infants by understanding how to communicate, acknowledge and recognize their emotions.
This week I’ve learned that there are different types of social/emotional development that infants go through. There are different stages of emotional/social development as the infant grows, but it all depends on their temperament which will also an important factor to know because you understand their comfort level in approaching people that they don’t know. These modules emphasize the importance of an infants communication level with their emotion/social development and how teachers and parents can help recognize their attempt in communicating.

How will the material from these modules better prepare you to work with infants?
Answer: I learn in this week’s modules that babies can self-regulate, they can recognize and manage their feelings, they use sounds, facial expressions, and body language to express themselves and communicate throughout their social-emotional development. I learn that there’s are 9 different types of temperament traits. This module will better prepare me when working with infants and toddlers by being able to understand the how they communicate and express themselves.
This week I learned about the way babies communicate in social and emotional ways in different age groups. We also learned about different practices that can be implemented in programs. We also learned about what works for us or doesn’t work in both ECE 209 lecture and seminar classes.
In module 5 I learned that each child are born different. Every child has their own ways of being. A child’s temperament is not always reflected on how a child is treated at home or by the culture their growing up in but that is a child being themselves. I found interesting because one would think a child’s action is reflected on what is learned at home all the time. This class will help me better prepare myself with my future children because I will have a different perspective on why a child is acting they way they are.
During this week’s module I learned all about social and emotional skills and how important it is to learn and apply this skill while being a teacher or even a parent. As teachers and parents we are teaching babies self-regulation. Self-regulation is when babies learn to realize positive behavior after responding in a negative way. It is up to us as parent’s and teachers to help them develop this skill by providing them with their needs when needed. It is the skill I will learn and use with my students when being a teacher. I know now that although they are babies they still expect respect and space just as adults do.

In this week’s modules for ECE 209 lecture and seminar I learned social and emotional development in infants (How much they can express, relationships they can create with the right support) and family engagements ( Reciprocal, strength based, individualized, and Participatory). We also go more in depth in Social and emotional development by talking about temperament and got to know about my own temperament as well, which is something I wasn’t aware of before.

This week I learned the importance of Social-emotional and how we need to make sure we encouraging children to be their best self. I also learned in a deeper level the reason why programs enforce so much family engagement and making sure we are connecting with the families and making sure we are being creative and at the same time creating a safe environment for everybody.
2:How will the material from these modules better prepare you to work with infants?
These modules this week will better prepare me to work with infants because I will make sure I am taking my time to get to know every family individually and making sure I can create a classroom where everybody is appreciated and welcome. But, at the same time always considering the child and how it will benefit them in long term.
