    1. What elements of working with preschool age children do you see demonstrated in the classrooms you visited virtually?
    – In the every classroom the kids develop sensory skills, gross motor development, supporting development, group activities, and culturally sustaining.
    2. How are the elements demonstrated in each classroom?
    – The kids are very hands on and they are involved with the class using their senses and muscles to participate in class. The teacher helps them learn and makes them answer questions while they play and I noticed in the first there was a little girl speaking Spanish and the teacher was being helpful by talking back to her and asking her questions she wasn’t neglecting her at all. Even in the fourth video there were more students speaking Spanish and the teacher was also asking them questions.

Hi Kathy. I agree that in all the videos the kids are very hands on and I definitely noticed language as well. Not just because some of the children were speaking in a different language (Spanish) but because they were speaking in full sentences. Great job ! 🙂

    1. What elements of working with preschool age children do you see demonstrated in the classrooms you visited virtually? Some of the elements that I see demonstrated in classroom 1 was cognitive development and motor development. For classroom 2 I saw emotional development , for classroom 3 I saw social development and fine motor development. For classroom 4 I saw a lot of language development.

2.How are the elements demonstrated in each classroom?
The elements that were demonstrated in classroom 1 was that they were using their thinking skills and pretend playing because they two girls in the video were pretending that the baby was at the doctor and was sick. They used motor development because they were using their bigger parts of their muscles which are their arms and legs.
In classroom 2 there was emotional development because the children were able to understand what the teacher was asking while they were outside playing in the sand.
In classroom 3 social development was used because they were interacting with the teachers while they were doing the certain activity and they used fine motor development because they used there smaller parts of their muscles like there fingers and hands to grab the objects that were set on the table.
In classroom 4 language development was used because the little boy In the video was talking and giving details about the book while the teacher and the other children were listening.

In every classroom the kids develop gross motor development, supporting development, group activities, and culturally sustaining, emotional development, and social development.

    2. How are the elements demonstrated In each classroom?

The elements that were demonstrated in classrooms were using their thinking skills and pretending to play because the two girls in the video were pretending their baby was sick and they took the baby to the doctor. They used motor development because they were using their bigger parts of their muscles which are their arms and legs. The kids are very hands on and they are involved with the class using their senses and muscles to participate in class. Also they were Interacting with one other. Also when the teacher ask them questions they were able to respond back.

While watching the videos i was able to see the children using their scenes, fine and gross motor skills and I’m seeing secure relationships between the children and the teachers.

in classroom number one the teacher began to interact with the children by talking to them about something they were interested in which happen to be the dolls. The children was comfortable with her to continue to talk to her while also being hands on with her students helping them move the doll around and explaining what shes doing with great imagination. They are in a school environment, the children are speaking Spanish and I’m seeing spanish posters in the back. She is very hands on and paying attention to how the children responds to everything she says. the children seem to be comfortable enough to play with her even though the children speak sapanish majority of the same she transitions back and forth from English and Spanish, making sure they understand her. Allowing the children to feel they can still speak to her in Spanish showing that she responds to the children’s.

In classroom number two the children were obviously into the scavenger hunt allowing them to be more intreged in the lesson she was trying to teach or the activity she was giving them. The space she provided was definitely big enough for all the children to play and be hands on with the activity. When it came to the learning aspect of the activity there was a lot of children who wanted the teacher’s assistants more but there was also other children doing their own thing close enough for the teacher to see them but also having their own sense of independence. The teacher worked closely with the kids I’m assuming needs more attention but all the children had smiles on there face while being engaged. The kids who worked closely with the teacher were talking to her and following her the whole time seeming as if the children were comfortable enough to do that.

In classroom number three all the children looked very interested in the activity put in front of them. The teacher also put a good amount of students at one table allowing them to interact and be able to do the same activity yet in their own way. They were able to do their activity independently, especially with it being a hands on activity, but also having a teacher sitting there watching them. The relationship between the children and the teacher is respectful they listen when she asked them to have manners but I’m not sure about the comfterblility beyond that.

In classroom number four the children were engaged in reading the book and also playing with the puppets. The environment the children were put in was good for the amount of kids that were all playing which happen to look like a rug playing area. The kids were hands on with moving the puppets mouth while the other kid was talking and the kids seem to trust the teacher and the other kids around to read out loud.

What elements of working with preschool age children do you see demonstrated in the classrooms you visited virtually?
In each classroom each child showed language, sensory skills, social development, emotional, culturally sustaining, physical and motor development.
How are the elements demonstrated in each classroom?
In class room #1: The children were playing “Doctor” with the baby doll. The little girl in the red scarf showed language skills when she was talking-to the teacher while playing with the doll but also spoke in a different language (Spanish). I also noticed that the kids were using their sensory skills and motor skills (using their arms) as they were playing with the doll and getting her ready for check up while the little girl in the long hair with bangs was playing quietly and at one point by herself. The students used language, sensory, motor and culturally sustaining
in class room #2: All the children were playing outside in the sand and communicating with their classmates and teacher by showing social and emotional responses when playing outside in the sand. All of the students used gross motor skills and language.
in class room #3: The children were sitting in a table using their upper body(gross motor development) to play with some water and paint as the teacher was asking them what was going on as they were using the water and paint. The children were interacting (using language) with the classmates sitting around them and the teacher.
in class room #4: The children were surrounded by the teacher while playing with the puppets and reading a book. The little boy reading the book spoke in Spanish and the teacher responded to him back in Spanish along with the other students about the book. The students were reading and thinking as they interacted on the carpet by using motor skills, social and culturally sustaining.

Also a lot of fine motor development was shown. In the second video, I observed a lot of gross and fine motor development as well making relationships. The students were all gathered to play with the sand and making relationships with the teachers and socializing. In the third video i saw a lot of cognitive and social emotional development. as well as fine motor skills. The children were all interacting with one another while making a science experiment. They also showed fine motor skills. In the last video, I saw a lot of developing relationships when the teacher and students were engaging reading a story.

    1. What elements of working with preschool age children do you see demonstrated in the classrooms you visited virtually?
    – The elements that were demonstrated in all four classroom were physical and fine motor development , cognitive development, culturally sustaining, group activities, and social/ emotional development.
    2. How are the elements demonstrated in each classroom?
    – Classroom #1, culturally sustaining was presented because the teacher would talk to the children in English and Spanish. As the child would answer her in Spanish, she would answer back in Spanish as well in order for her to understand what she is saying. I believe the child is able to feel comfortable in the classroom because the teacher is able to communicate with her in her native language.
Classroom #2 performed outdoor activity where the children were searching for the treasure in the sandbox. They were provided maps to guide them on where to go and what to cross over.
Classroom #3 shows integrated curriculum being present by the children learning science. They are performing their own experiment individually and are able to use hand-on activities to learn how to use syringes and test tubes to perform the experiment. All children used their fine motor skills to cross over the “bridge” and used shovels to look for the treasure in the sandbox. Emotional development was shown as well when they found the gold. They used their five senses such as touch, hear, and sight.
Classroom #4 as well showed integrated curriculum being present by the children doing read out loud. The child was reading out loud in the small group he was in with his teacher. He was able to read the words in Spanish and answer the questions that the teacher would ask. All classrooms performed group activities that are beneficial for the childrens to learn from each other and work together.

Yes, there was relationship secure and responsive. It impacts the child to be responsive. The teacher asked the question to the child “are you going to make a lettuce sandwich”. Using an expressive language, the child says yes. Yes, we do see opportunities to support the development of language. They are too young to use actual words but they can express sound. They are also able to demonstrate receptive language when they repeated the sound the teacher made. Yes, the relationship was secure and children were responsive and she was able to build trust with them. This video actually shows that the teacher and the child are building relationship. We observe this when the teacher looks through the camera and the baby response with the same gesture.
Individualized Routines Yes, they were playing in the sand.
There was individualized/ preferences play; the little girl with a yellow shirt and an orange short was playing the sand alone. Also we saw them playing together in the sand. Playing
While playing with the children, teachers ask questions relating to play. Yes, individualized routine was observed through playing. Yes, an individualized routine was observed in their playing the toys and one another.
Supporting Development The little girl uses her gross motor skills when she attempts to lift her bucket to be filled with sand. Yes, this video supports all create opportunity to support developmental growth. Noah is playing with the apple, but the girl wants to have an apple. So the teacher tells her it is still his turn. Supporting development was in language. Physical through the demonstration of their fine and gross motor skills. Yes, it did supported. It create an opportunities, the toys, the language of the teachers creates an opportunity to support the development to growth.
Sensory Experiences The stimuli of the sand are able to use two senses, touch and see. Yes, it allows them to use connections of the fine motor skills and gross motor skills. Yes. The stimuli here were food. Three senses were use; they are hearing, touching and seeing. Yes, the child’s interest was demonstrated through the pincher grasp. They were able to grab toys. Yes, the stimuli are the toys. The toys evoke the toddlers to use their fine motor skills.
Being culturally sustaining This is culturally sustaining because children are able to conform to their own personal choices to play individually or collaborative. There was no culture sustain. There was no cultural sustaining. There was no cultural sustaining

What elements of working with preschool age children do you see demonstrated in the classrooms you visited virtually?

–Within the four videos, I noticed fine motor skills, group learning/activites, emotional development, sensory skills, motor development, etc.

How are the elements demonstrated in each classroom?

    — Classeroom#1 : Showed cultural sustaining, there was more than one language being spoken. The teacher spoke Spanish and English to the children which made it easier for children who feel more comfortable in Spanish to participate in the lesson. It makes the classroom a more comfortable environment to those whose home language is Spanish.

—Clasroom #2: Showed children playing outside together, represents social and emotional development because the students are interacting with each other and expressing their emotions while playing. This helps them understand the people around them and create friendships by communicating.

—-Classroom #3: Showed examples of fine motor skills because you can see the students using the small muscles in their hands to grab supplies off the table. Picking up and putting items down shows that a child is able to use their motor skills to pick up objects and use them accordingly.

—-Classroom #4: Showed that students can focus on puppets and a read aloud at the same time. Intergrated learning was present and it is notable of the social interactions made by the students on the read aloud carpet. Each student was engaged and its apparent that language development was involved because of the teacher speaking to children in Spanish and the children responding in full sentences.

    1. What elements of working with preschool age children do you see demonstrated in the classrooms you visited virtually?
The elements I saw being demonstrated in the classrooms I visited virtually would be communication skills; teachers and students conversate with one another, physical and fine motor when moving around and grabbing toys, emotional development; kids showed there feelings laughing, smiling , happy and cultural sustaining; spoke another language with the kids.
    2. How are the elements demonstrated in each classroom?
    Classroom 1
There was more than one language being spoken, illustrating cultural sustainability. The instructor talked to the children in Spanish and English, making it easier for kids who felt more relaxed in Spanish to take part in the lesson. It makes the classroom a more relaxed atmosphere for those who have Spanish as their home language.
    Classroom 2
Children were playing outside together, since the students communicate with each other and show their emotions while playing, reflects social and emotional development. This helps them understand the people around them and build friendships/ feel like they can trust the teachers with anything they’re dealing with.
    Classroom 3
Examples of fine motor skills have been seen because students can be seen using the tiny muscles in their hands to grab supplies from the table. Picked up and placed things down shows that a child is using their motor skills.
    Classroom 4
It demonstrated that students can concentrate on puppets and at the same time read aloud. There was social experiences shown by the students on the read aloud carpet. the teacher speaking to children in Spanish and the children reacting in complete sentences, each student engaged and it is clear that language development was involved.

I Scene curriculums because treasure was used to describe color, sizes,I am showing them about money was Incorporated show them how to count and share.Environment was doing the treasure hunt, asking questions, it was a large group activity, everybody was involved. It was also fostering peer relationships because the kids were talking with one another helping each other dig and share treasure. Learning was looking for the treasure, hands-on activity, promoting curiosity, materials prompted exploration because they wanted to know where it was or what it was. Relationships with the kids talking with them and giving the kids praise.
    Video 3:

I noticed there was supportive learning, cultural understanding from all diversities and backgrounds, and cognitive development

How are the elements demonstrated in each classroom?
    – The teachers were speaking to the girls in Spanish, since I’m assuming they only spoke Spanish. There were two girls pretending tp be doctors, and first of all that’s amazing, but besides the point. Some of the children that were reading were explaining, in detail, what happened in the book.

  17. Jen Longley Post author

Akera — Thanks for your comment. I wonder, for each individual video, how did you see the teachers demonstrate the elements to effectively work with preschool age children?

    Assignment 1

    Classroom 1:

In classroom one, it seemed as though the instructor rook time to form relationships with the students while she played with them on their level. She also understood the Spanish-speaking student and gained her trust/sustained her culture by speaking and listening to her native language. It seemed like everyone enjoyed role-playing doctors together and that the instructor might have adapted the curriculum to meet the interests of the kids.

    Classroom 2:

In the second classroom, the teacher-led a scavenger hunt that seemed to captivate the attention of all her students. The teacher also gave positive affirmations and guidance to the kids during the activity that helped to establish a positive relationship with them. The environment was extremely open and inviting with play equipment

    Classroom 3:

In the third classroom, the teacher called each student by their names, establishing a positive relationship with the students. The first activity they did was a science experiment that was extremely interactive and hands-on. The teacher also asked open-ended questions and assured learning with the environment she provided. The classroom had many bright colors and inviting shapes and patterns on the walls. This appeared to provide an exciting environment for class without over stimulating any of the children.

    Classroom 4:

In classroom four, the teacher is playing with puppets and reading books with the students. The teacher seemed to get on the kids’ level and ask questions to establish a relationship with the students and to encourage the students to have a positive relationship with each other. I also noticed the materials in the class such as puppets and storybooks that encouraged learning and provided a safe and supported opportunity to learn.
