What are the advantages of choosing a host-country national staffing strategy?

There are a few advantages with choosing a host-country national staffing strategy, one of them being cost efficiency. You will save on salary and compensation if the employee is already e host is already located in the country. It would also save hiring cost like visa fee, and travel reimbursement.

If the host country employee is familiar with the language it eliminates language barrier , also they have a better understanding of local regulations, laws  and policies.

Develop a compensation plan for each of the 2 countries: I would like to follow the balance sheet approach so that base pay is similar. Its also fair because it’ll allow the managers to have the same standards of living, as they did back in the U.S.

Below I have created a compensation plan for the US and each of the other two countries.

Develop an outline for a training plan, making reasonable assumptions about the information a new manager would need to know at Fish to Go.

The following training plan will need to be followed and performed by the new Manager.

Health and Safety

Customer escalated Process training

Company policies and regulation

Equal Employment opportunity training

Food and safety training

Management and leadership training

Training plans are important because they help establish company policies from the start as well as help create a pathway for each employee.

The Discussion question presented this week was “should Children resume in Person Learning.”
I was assigned Pro students going back to school. Although I was unable to make this weeks live session, I did my research and the amount of information I came across was astounding. Going into this unit I thought why anyone would want to send their kid back to school especially now with the numbers coming back up so rapidly, however we don’t see the impact it has had not only on the parent but the child as well. This year has not been easy in the least, everyone has in some way been affected by the results of Covid 19. There are many challenges that we are all still trying to figure out and School is one of them.

When I first made the switch from in person learning to remote, for me it was difficult I am a person who learns best being in a classroom, being able to be hands on and have no distractions, so I could only imagine how children must feel and how their parents must feel as well, as they have had to not only juggle being a parent but being a teacher now too in some sort of way. However, we have to think about those parents who are essential workers who don’t have the resources to be able to leave their child home while they are at work or have no one to leave their kid with. While we are so quick to think why anyone would send their child back to school, we don’t know what their living situation is, whether their child needs special services. However something that has unfortunately been a rising issue is safety and not only the safety of the children but those whom they come around, although for many reasons it would help the child retain more and be attentive of what is being taught to them if they were to be back in school, there are children who also live with high risk family members who can be highly affected by this.

While it seems like this is going to continue to be an ongoing issue, I think that there has to be a better way to be able to provide the adequate resources for children especially those in the younger age range and those who need special services to be able to get the education that they deserve. Although ultimately the decision is the parents I think if they are choosing to keep their child at home , they should be able to access those resources needed so their child does not fall behind. Ultimately the goal is to keep everyone safe , we just need to find a way in doing so that doesn’t put our children’s education on a pause.

Benefits and Services

When you think about applying for a job, there are a few factors that take into play. Most people would normally go for a job that is appealing to them or in a field that they see themselves in long term. However, with that also comes looking into jobs that have more to offer and by that, I mean employee benefits. Benefits play a big factor in attracting candidates as well as retaining them. There are many kinds of benefits that employers may offer such as bonuses, employee discounts, health insurance, workers compensation, paid vacations, medical leaves and the list goes on. These are a few of the benefits that some companies make available, and while they are not mandated companies who offer benefits show their interest and investment in an employee which help retain talent.

Companies are always looking for a way to keep their employers and avoid turnover rates at their companies to go up. By making benefits available to employees it shows that the company is appreciative of the work they have to offer. Although some companies do have a specific requirement in order to receive benefits such as being full time, when they attract the right people, they work hard to earn them. Gap Inc for example has a list of great and very Unique benefits. These benefits include healthcare, employee discounts, Savings and retirement plans, Stock plans, Paid time off, commuter programs, mental health programs and for me the most important would be tuition reimbursements.

For me some of the most important and most attracting benefits that have really stood out to me are Paid time off, Health insurance and lastly Tuition reimbursement. Life can get crazy and sometimes you have unexpected life events that happen as well as wanting to take time off just because you need a break however some people struggle to take time off because well we all need the money and so they feel tied to their job , by offering paid time off you are able to have a good work life balance and employees will appreciate feeling like their job won’t be at risk for taking personal time. Health insurance is also very important to many, it can be very expensive to get health insurance and for your job to be able to provide that to you is great it relieves some stress in the event that you have to visit a doctor or in case of an emergency. To me the most important is tuition reimbursement, to me this is the one that stood out the most, being a student and working fulltime can be stressful and while this is not a traditional benefit it is one that would be very appreciated by those who want to continue their education but want to work as well. In many companies the majority of workers are students by being able to offer them something it will keep them interested and as well as keeping them engaged at work. Ideally pay is really important, however I would consider a lower pay to keep the benefits that suit me the most and that I prefer over the pay. When a company is able to offer you something that may not be as assessable otherwise its definitely something id consider.

With companies becoming more and more competitive it is important to stand out and have something that employees look forward to. It will make your employers more loyal and will help the company retain talent. One sustainable benefit is healthcare it is the one that stands out the most to employees when companies can offer this to them and about 61% of workers have said they are very satisfied at their companies for being able to offer healthcare. In the long run benefits will always play a big part in attracting and retaining employees.

Retention Assignment

After reading this case study, i believe for Harper the most demotivating part was Jose’s departure. She had someone who she did not only see as a boss or leader but as someone who seemed interested in her career development and in her as an individual. With harper having to step up and take up more workload it created a extra level of stress and led her to not be able to manage her work/life balance. Which i think is very important to be able to do no matter how much you enjoy your job.

Putting myself in Harpers shoes i can see where the frustration is taking over . She doesn’t feel that same connection she had with her former boss and feels as if she is falling behind. She also mentions that before she always felt like she knew what was going on and in the look where now David doesn’t seem to have the same type of communication.

If i were an HR manager meeting with David i would be sure to have hi understand why Harper is such an asset to the company. And that in order to reengage her he really needs to put the time into her as an individual. with her being there for 4 years he should really be working closely to her in her career development and who knows maybe she can even be the next Jose. She is responsible and enjoys her job but she is also overwhelmed and when an employee feels over burden it starts showing in their work.

As i said Harper seems to be a great asset to the company. She has taken in the responsibility and i don’t think its that she doesn’t want to do it i believe its just a lot on her plate and has not been able to communicate with David because he doesn’t have the same amount of time that Jose did.If she were to be lost as an employee that could greatly impact the company and how much gets done. I think the best thing to do is to have an open communication and for David to listen to Harpers concerns about what is going on.

Personality Test

“Adventurer”

My Personality Trait after taking the 16 Personality test came back as being an Adventurer. To describe it in a few words it means I am Artistic, Explorer, and look for Constant Improvement. Although after reading through my results I agree with most of what was stated, there are definitely many that don’t seem to truly describe me. Although these tests are something, I find to be enjoyable I don’t think this type of test should influence a job hiring decision. Below I will share some of my findings after taking the personality test and whether it relates or not.

While going through my evaluation there are definitely many things I found shockingly relatable in my personality characteristics for example it states that as someone with an adventurer personality I am inspired by connections with others and ideas and that is something I can truly relate to , whether it’s in my work life or personal life I love getting to know and understand people, and why they are the way they are there’s something about not jumping into conclusion when meeting someone but rather getting to know them and their story that intrigues me. Something I also found amazing and almost funny is it states I like spontaneity and im almost unpredictable but at the same time it shocks people when I come off as almost an introvert and it almost shocked me when it said that because it truly does describe me 100% , I love adventure and seeking new things to do or new places to try however there are times when all I want is just to be in the comfort of my own home with the people I feel the most safe and comfortable with.

When it comes to my drive something it mentioned, and I agree 100% with is that I am passionate and that I find ways to push their passion. I truly resonate so much with that because well its true with everything I set my mind to and want to achieve I always find a way to make it happen no matter the obstacles that come with it , which is why when I see myself almost not trying I step back and I ask myself is this something  am truly passionate about because if it was then id find a way to get it done. In the reading it also mentions my hard time at planning for the future and in more ways than others it makes sense more so in my career than in my personal life, but I guess both go hand in hand being that whatever I plan on doing for my career will somehow affect my personal life. Planning for the future has always terrified me in some way , not knowing what’s next for me or what my 5 year plan in my career is , is always something I seem to get stuck on and almost wish someone could give me the answer however it know that’s not how it works its something I have been trying to get better at throughout the years.

Charming, Sensitive to others, imaginative, passionate , artistic , these are some of the strengths that came up on my test, and in one way or another I agree with although if I was describing myself there are things I wouldn’t have mentioned after reading through it , it makes sense. As I mentioned before I am very passionate with anything I do, you will always see the drive and focus to reach the end goal, I am definitely very sensitive to others for as long as I can remember I always put my family friends and even peers first and when I love I love hard which can both be a good or bad thing. The artistic part definitely stood out to me because while I cannot for the life of me draw you or sketch you something more than just a stick figure I can definitely help you plan a room makeover or take your ideas of how you want your birthday party to look and make then come to life which is why I believe the job I am in right now as a visual merchandiser is so good for me.

Contrary to my strengths of course we all have weaknesses and the two that mostly stood out to me were fiercely independent and easily stressed. For as long as I can remember something my parents have always said was that even as a little girl I was really independent I wanted to get things done on my own the way I liked them to be done or I would not be satisfied, and well it came with me as an adult because that is exactly how I am till this day, it has its ups but also its downs because sometimes you have to learn to ask for help and that’s something I’m not very good at doing which leads me to the next thing being easily stressed, when taking to much on and not knowing how to say no because I think I have it all figured out I only really end up messing myself up because I become this person who is trying to juggle a million and one things when it could’ve been so simple had I asked for help.

Although I can definitely see myself agreeing with a lot of what was said I kept coming back and saying this relates more to my personal everyday life rather than my work life, and that is something many have to understand and be ok with. Its okay to be one way at work and one way outside of work because well if im being honest outside of work I may seem like im too nice but at work I keep a professional setting and know how to separate my personal and work environment. Which is why I don’t think these test should be used to determine whether you’re a good fit for a job or not , because again lets face it we are all one way at work than we are outside of work , we are one way with our friends than how we are with our peers and if someone would just go off this and for example read that I don’t know how to plan for the future they may get the idea that I am not driven enough or I like to stay stagnant or content and that’s not the truth. So although these are fun to take for your own entertainment, a jobs ultimate decision should not be based on this but more so by your knowledge your experience your background of jobs and skillset.

Equal Rights Assignment

Equal Opportunity and The Law

After watching the Film and our lecture one thing really stands out to me and that is that although we have come a long way, we still have so much more work to do. Ruth Ginsburg from the film On the Basis of Sex really stood out to me, for many reasons she reminds me a lot of myself or at least the type of woman I want to be. When asked in the beginning of the film why she is the place of where a man could be, she mocks the dean and that made me go wow! The other woman were trying to say the perfect thing however she knew nothing would be good enough for him. She did not want to be your “normal” woman who was supposed to stay home and cook and clean and be the caregiver to her husband and child and she made that very clear from the start.

Being a woman is already hard as it is, now being a woman in a place where your male counterpart is more dominant well that just makes it that much harder. While it was hard, she continuously challenged her male classmates and higher ups knowing that not many would take her serious because she was in a male dominated industry. She pushed and strived overcame the obstacles along the way but made her voice be heard. It is hard to not give up when you aren’t taken seriously but she did not let that get the better of her .

I’m sure at one point or another we have all felt some sort of discrimination just because we are women, now this is not to say that men don’t go through it as well but it is less likely. As I stated before we still have such a long way to go. As a woman sometimes we have to think a little more about what we wear not because of the appearance but because of what others may portray by it. What do I mean by this, well its simple Women till this day are still being sexualized, not only in the workplace but out in the street, in school etc. There are many more policies in place for sure especially in the workplace such as dress code , and hotlines you can call if you feel unsafe but just the fact that there has to be a specific dress code so that a woman doesn’t get sexualized is mind boggling to me. No one should feel like they can’t wear something because it may cause someone to do something. Employees should feel safe in their work environment .

Equal Pay is another part of Gender Equality and where we are at now , although women are still only making 70% of what men make we’ve come far. As a woman to me this is something that we need to continue to work on. A woman can do the same job that a man can and to think that we are getting paid less for putting just as much effort if not more than a man is and should be upsetting.

Our system needs to continue to be worked on, however what Ruth did has shaped and continues to shape the Equal Gender legislation. For a woman to be able to work in a place where 100 years ago we would’ve been frown upon is a big step in the right direction. She paved the way to a better future for women, Minorities, our future children. All in all what she set herself to do was accomplished and that is open the door for a future where both men and women can be seen as equals.
