How to File Your 2026–2027 FAFSA
- Create an FSA ID (if you’re a first-time applicant)
Go to StudentAid.gov and create your FSA ID. This lets you sign your FAFSA online.
- Your parent(s) must have their own FSA ID and password to complete their portion of the FAFSA.
- Gather Your Documents. Documents you’ll need include:
- Your Social Security Number (or Alien Registration Number if applicable)
- Your driver’s license (if you have one)
- Your and your parents’ 2024 tax returns and income info
- Your bank statements and records of investments (if any)
- Start Your FAFSA
Go to FAFSA.gov and select 2026–2027 FAFSA form.
- Fill Out the FAFSA
- Make sure to enter BMCC’s federal school code 002691 so your FAFSA information is sent to the college.
- If you’re a dependent student, you’ll need to include parent information. At least one parent will be listed as a contributor.
- Contributors (your spouse, or your parent(s) and your parent’s spouse) must provide info, sign the FAFSA, and give consent to share their federal tax info.
- Each contributor must have their own StudentAid.gov account to complete their part. If your parent does not have a Social Security number, they can still create an FSA ID and password.
- Sign and Submit
Use your FSA ID to sign electronically. Then submit your FAFSA.
- If you invite a contributor, you’ll also see their invitation information and the status of their sections.
- Check Your FAFSA Status
After submitting, you’ll get a Student Aid Report (SAR) by email or mail. Review it and make any corrections if needed.
