Hey, ya’ll! My name is Hazel. I am currently a stay-at-home mom to a one-year-old boy. I am majoring in criminal justice and plan to further my education after BMCC. However, I am unsure about my career path after receiving my bachelor’s.
I look forward to learning with you all these next few months!!
Hey Hazel!, what made you choose criminal justice as your major at bmcc?
Hi Hazel! I am also a stay-at-home mom to a one-year-old boy, and I must give you props because I’ve had at least 20 jobs, and none can compare to being a stay-at-home mom. So, I salute you! I wish you the best on your career path and everything will fall into place in due time! Good luck!
Hey Hazel, I am sure you’ll figure out your career path soon. criminal justicd is an interesting major to have.
Hello all,
My name is April, I am a 44 year old Puerto Rican from Brooklyn New York. I’m trying to knock the dust off my brain as I haven’t been in school since 2001. My children are all adults now and they have luckily kept me sharp and inspired me to go back to school. One reason I’ve decided to return to school is because I currently work in the city as a project manager at an Architectural firm and I’ve been here 20 year so it’s time for a change. I will be leaving NYC in the next 5 years, but my expertise in NYC building code isn’t something I can quite transfer to other locations. I have returned to BMCC after 24 years to follow my heart and complete my associates in Human Services. My goal is to go forward with a Bachelors and become a domestic violence counselor or to work with troubled teens . I have a lot of life experiences in both those categories and I’d like to help others in similar situations. I look forward to learning something new and getting to know the rest of my classmates and professor these next 4 months. I wish us all the best in passing with A’s and getting just that much closer to all our goals.
Congratulations on coming back to school ! I relate to you wanting to help those who need it most, especially after being in close proximity to it. I hope you get to achieve all that and then some.
Thank You
Hi April! Nice to meet you. It is very inspiring to hear your story and of the success you have made but the decision that you want to take a different direction. I think I t takes a lot to decide to switch gears and pursue what inspires you, I think it will be worth it and I wish you luck.
You are inspirational! It takes a lot to come back and dedicate yourself to school. As a fellow Boricua, I applaud you! We got this.
Hi Hazel
WHEPPPA ..lol
Hey April, I’m glad you made the decision to come back and finish what you started, its never too late there is nothing that can get in your way!
Hi April,
I can relate to the feeling of trying to shake the dust off my brain. About a decade ago, I secured a job before completing my degree. As I continue to grow within my organization, I’ve realized that while experience is incredibly valuable, obtaining a degree is essential. It doesn’t expire, and no one can take it away from you. The fact that you are returning to school after so many years, and in a field that truly resonates with you, speaks volumes about your dedication to personal growth and helping others. I am sure your experiences will be invaluable to your peers, and it’s clear that you have a passion for making a difference. Best of luck as you continue on this new journey. I look forward to learning alongside you this semester.
Hey you guys! I hope all is well, my name is Najah and I’m a 20 year old New York native. I’ve moved around a lot, so most of what i enjoy doing is indoors such as reading, or playing video games. One thing that I can say motivates me is my desire for change. I’m a criminal justice major and I’ve always wanted to be the type of person that helps as opposed to hinder, and seeing the state of certain affairs made me want to try and be the change. After BMCC I hope to become either a Parole officer or a youth counselor to assist people going on the right path.
Hey! I also consider myself a bit of an introvert. I love that you already have strong career goals set for yourself. I look forward to learning with you!
Hi Najah,
Help not Hinder I like that positive message. Both those fields desperately need someone like you. Two often the purpose of people there are just to get a paycheck. So many measure success in financial increments, I measure it by making a difference in at least one persons life.
Hello Najah, I think that’s pretty cool that you want to assist people on going the the right path, I feel like if you help someone they can help other people because of one person(you) which helped them in some way or changed their outlook on their life choices to guide them to that said path, also the desire of change, for me it can be a little bit intimidating(Good or Bad) but It’s something that has to happen to actually see changes in every aspect of life or changes in the world we live in.
