1.I think Ruth Gilmore means that racism and capitalism have been connected in America for a long time. White people were given more power and better chances, while Black people and other minorities were treated unfairly and paid less. Because of this some groups stayed richer while others struggled more. I think she is saying racism is built into the system and helped capitalism grow.

2.Gilmore says the prison system can create more criminals because people who leave prison have a hard time finding jobs, a place to live, and support. Many people judge them because of their criminal record, so it becomes harder for them to live a normal life. This can push some people back into crime. I agree with her because the system often punishes people but does not help them improve their lives after prison.

3.My understanding of liberation struggle is people working together to fight unfair treatment like racism, poverty, and unfair laws. Gilmore believes people should help make society more equal and fair for everyone. I think she wants communities to come together and create positive change so everyone can have better opportunities in life.

1. MLK says a just law is fair and treats everyone equally. It respects people and follows what is right. A just law helps people and protects their rights. An unjust law is unfair and does not treat everyone the same. It hurts people or puts some groups down. MLK also says unjust laws go against moral values and can take away people’s dignity. The main difference is that just laws are fair and right while unjust laws are unfair and harmful.

2. Yes, I think this difference is very important. Laws control how people live every day, if a law is unfair, it can really affect someone’s life in a really negative way. For example unfair laws can limit people’s opportunities or rights. It also affects politics because people may protest, vote, or speak out to change unjust laws. When people believe a law is wrong, it can lead to movements and big changes in society. So knowing the difference helps people stand up for what is right.

3. An example of an unjust law is segregation laws from the past, because they treated people differently based on race and were not fair. These laws made certain groups feel less important and took away their rights. An example of a just law is laws that protect equal rights, like laws that say everyone should be treated the same no matter their race or gender. These laws are fair because they give everyone the same rights and protect people from discrimination.

1.The court system is better at protecting people because judges are not elected. They don’t have to worry about getting votes they can focus on what is fair and what the law says. Elected leaders like the President or Congress might try to make most people happy so they can stay in power. This can sometimes hurt smaller groups as well . Judges can make fair decisions even if people don’t like them. For example courts have protected peoples right to speak freely , even when others do not agree with them.

2.I don’t think the Supreme Court being “anti-democratic” is always a bad thing. Judges are chosen, not elected, so they don’t have to follow what people want all the time. This helps them make fair choices based on the law. One reason for this is to stop one group from having too much power. In Federalist #10 , it says groups of people might try to control the government for their own benefit. Having judges who are not elected helps protect everyone’s rights, not just the majority.

1.The war on terror is different from regular wars because it is not against one country. It is against terrorist groups that can be anywhere. In normal wars countries fight each other with armies. But in the war on terror the enemy is harder to find and the fighting is not in just one place. The government also started using more surveillance and new laws to stop attacks, which makes it different from traditional wars.

2. Roving wiretaps let the government listen to someone’s calls or messages without getting a new warrant each time. This can go against the Fourth Amendment because people are supposed to be protected from unfair searches and need a clear warrant. It can also affect the First Amendment because people might be scared to speak freely if they think they are being watched.

3.Sneak and peek warrants let the government search someone’s home without telling them right away. This seems unfair because people usually have the right to know when they are being searched. This can go against the Fourth Amendment because it takes away some privacy.

1.The Establishment Clause means the government cannot support or create a religion. It keeps religion separate from the government. The Lemon Test is used to see if a law breaks this rule. It says a law must have a non-religious purpose, it cannot mainly help or hurt a religion, and it cannot make the government too involved in religion. If it fails one of these, the law is not allowed.

2.Yes burning the U.S. flag is protected by the First Amendment. The supreme court case Texas v. johnson showed this by the court decided that burning the flag is a way people express their opinions. Even though many people feel it is disrespectful, the government cannot punish someone just for expressing their beliefs. This shows how the First Amendment protects freedom of expression, even if the message is not agreed with.

3.When someone says “I’m taking the Fifth” it means they are using their Fifth Amendment right. This means they do not have to answer a question if it could get them in trouble, It protects them from saying something that could be used against them in court.
