Faction reminds me of political parties. A faction is a group of people who share the same interests or beliefs that can influence government decisions. Political parties organize and share same beliefs or ideas to be able to push out there agenda aka a faction.
Madison state’s wealth comes from diversity in the faculties of men, faculties meaning people natural talents and resources. He basically states that all people have different abilities and qualities that will acquire different amounts of commodities, better abilities more wealth.
I disagree, in Madison’s explanation he states that people’s faculties gain more traction , however i think it’s more complex than that, I think especially in early America and even today’s it’s also based on social factors like race, education , inheritance and environment. Yes natural talents play a role but the economic inequality is what mostly plays a role in society shaping advantages and disadvantages just based on how they look or come from.
the first object of government is the protection of different faculties, Which meant protecting property mostly. In today’s America that can look a different, it can be protecting civil rights, keeping welfare or education, and providing human rights. Madison main focus was on protecting property.
No, in federalist 10, Madison argues that democracy which is lower class can overpower minority rights. The constitution main goal was to protect property and stop factions from taking control of it. A republic was voted to keep citizens from voting, creating a system to limit majority votes and reduce conflict.
What concept that we have already discussed does “faction” remind you of?
According to Federalist #10 (written by James Madison), what is the sourceof wealth (private property)? What factor explains why some people get to possess wealth by owning private property, and others don’t (thus remaining poor)? This is a key question, because it shows how the authors of the Constitution thought about the difference between different classes of Americans! HINT: focus on the passage that begins: “The diversity in the faculties (WHAT DOES FACULTIES mean or refer to?) of men, from which the rights of property originate, is not les….”
Do you agree with this explanation of wealth and poverty?
What is the core mission (“first object”) of the US government? Does this surprise you, does it sound different from what our society today seems to suggest the core mission of the government is? Explain.
Given the discussion in questions 1-4, are you surprised that Federalist #10 is not in favor of democracy, and supports a Republican (representative) form of government? Why would d the author dislike a (pure) democratic form of government? Hint: think about how this question connects with the social classes…
