The station closest to where I live is Delancey St–Essex St, where I can take the J, M, and F trains. Based on Reading 4.1, I would say my neighborhood is mostly a mix of working-class and middle-class people. I’m not really surprised by this because the Lower East Side has always been a very diverse neighborhood, and you can see people from many different economic backgrounds living in the same area. I do think this is a pretty accurate representation of my neighborhood. There are families who have lived here for many years, including working-class and lower-income families, but there are also newer residents who may be considered middle- or upper-middle-class. With newer apartments, restaurants, and businesses coming into the neighborhood, you can definitely see the differences in income. So I wouldn’t describe the Lower East Side as belonging to just one social class, because it’s really a mix of different classes.
