Mariel Flores / Long Paper Outline

My choice for animated film would be Paranorman which released in 2012. I chose this film because it’s a stop motion animation movie and it’s also one of the biggest production to be made in stop motion animation. So I would like to explore that even more and the studio behind it called LAIKA Studios.

Outline:

– Title, year of release, studio, director

– Length

– Summary of story (main characters and plot points).

– Style of animation/what does it look/sound like?

– Tone

Contextualize the film:

– Story’s origin

– Length of production

– Animation technique, important technical and stylistic developments

– Use of music/songs

– Different aesthetic approach for characters

– Critical reception

Analyze the film:

-How is it visually distinct/similar to what came before it?

-What are it’s influences outside of animation (painting, comics, live-action film etc.).

-Which works from previous eras/cultures seem to have influenced the work (technically, aesthetically, narratively, politically etc.)?

-How does it depart from its influences?

-What is the filmmaker trying to express/convey? Is it innovative (technically, aesthetically, narratively)?

-Do you think the filmmaker could have made different choices that would have led to a stronger piece?

Rooty toot toot’s use of sound, colors and movements really makes it eye catching & fun because it’s entertaining to watch and has exaggerated movements. The music and sound effects go well with each other because it has a certain tone that makes you wanna listen and watch. This is very effective because it’s different from other animations which can be too exaggerated or just have the same tone throughout with minimal eye catching or attention grabbing details.

The animated film the hand was probably not allowed to be screened because the government was controlling at the time and the hand represented that which didnt allow the character in the film to be able to do anything on their own it had to be under the hand or by their strict rules to follow.

During wwii animation was used to get messages across or lighten things up, in private snafu the way they used and described their fighting tools was with humor or singing songs about soldiers or what they were going through. Also rhyming to make things fun would be part of it along with many other ways which made it seem less intense during those times.

The sound and music in steamboat willy is used to emphasize action because it sets the tone of the scenes and the representation of the characters. The use of each sound reveals a bit of the characters personality by the way which the sound expresses them. For example when mickey starts using the animals as instruments, it shows his personality and how playful he is as a character.

Mariel Flores W2 Promt #3

Being an audience member at one of Gaspard Robertson’s “Fantasmagorie” shows in 1797 would’ve been fascinating but mostly terrifying during those times. Never experiencing anything like this before I would’ve assumed these images were the real thing that I was seeing. I’d be amazed at how realistic it was. A form of entertainment that would elicit this same type of emotions would be VR. The way the meta verse is going and what it will be in the future would give you these same emotions. Being in a place and seeing things that seem so real but aren’t would leave you speechless and terrified knowing how far things have come.

My name is Mariel Flores I am 22 years old and my major is multimedia and design. I chose this course so that I can get a better understanding of how animation works and how much it has changed and came along the way throughout the years. My career goals is to find a good path in graphic design and help businesses or any one to get their message or design out there. A few fun facts about me is that I have a cat named goose, I recently got my bartending license and have been at bmcc for a year now.
