Judah Hull -week 5 prompt 2

Dopey and Grumpy can be differentiated by the way that they look. Grumpy always has a stern look on his face, he crosses his arms a lot, and his voice matches his face in that it is deep, and he comes across as mean. Dopey smiles a lot, he looks kind of shy, possibly due to his inability to speak, and has very baggy clothing compared to every other dwarf.

Judah Hull – Week 4 Short Paper Outline

The Artist’s Dream (1913) By John Rudolph Bray

This film attracted me because Bray introduced cel animation, which left a huge impact on the animation industry by drawing images and then filming them. I think it’s a simple enough concept that has since been used in very creative ways. The film itself uses drawings to create the idea that there is movement, and, in my paper, I will discuss the history of cel animation, the significance of cel animation and the impact that it left on modern animation.

Judah Hull W3 – Prompt 2

Many early animated films were based on print comics, most likely to establish a new platform for comics. These animations would make it possible to turn translate pictures into film establishing a new medium that would later inspire many famous animated titles we know today. Another reason that I think that comics were, and still are, an appropriate subject for film is that they have so much room to create and explore so many different topics and ideas that the possibilities for animated films are pretty much endless. Even today, this idea for adapting comics is still widely accepted and a functional part of the entertainment industry because many movies and tv shows, cartoons and Japanese anime all have big projects and intellectual properties that all started from a comic series.

Judah Hull – Week 2 Prompt 3

I couldn’t imagine myself being an audience member at one of Gaspard Robertson’s “Fantasmagorie” shows in 1797 because I’m not really a fan of supernatural horror. As for my reaction? I’d imagine as an audience member, I would’ve been impressed by the creativity in the show, but during that time I probably would’ve been terrified of the magic and very unsettling atmosphere of the show. Another form of entertainment that would get the same reaction out of me today would be modern day horror movies because with modern technology, animation is so much more refined, and it can produce the same reaction now as it did back then.

Journal Entry 1 Prompt 2

An animated film that I like is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse because the movie came out on my birthday, so me and my friend saw it at Times Square and both the movie, and the audience made a great experience that I won’t soon forget. I really loved the characters because they were all funny and relatable and iconic in their own right. The animation really stood out to me especially because it is a major upgrade from last movie where the big thing with the animation is that it was kind of choppy, but with this animation in Across the Spider-Verse, the color really pops out at you and even in Gwen Stacy’s dimension they use watercolor to signify the emotional impact of each scene which was really cool, and Spider-Punk was animated differently because instead of being animated on 2s like every other character, he is animated on 3s, which means he gets put in a different pose every 3 frames, making him have the choppiest animation but it looks really cool with his newspaper look. The movie was made by Sony Pictures Animation in association with Marvel Entertainment and released on June 2nd, 2023.
