Japan Airlines

Japan Airlines is the leading airline in Japan. Japan Airlines’s social responsibility is to provide the best service to its customers, to enhance its corporate value, and to contribute to the progress and development of society. In addition, due to the nature of being an airline company, we have the following social responsibilities. Safety is to protect lives and is a prerequisite for the existence of the JAL Group. We will firmly keep in mind our mission and responsibility as safety professionals, and will do our utmost with our knowledge, skills, and abilities to ensure the safety of each and every flight.

In March 2013, the JAL Group established the Basic CSR Policy and has been focusing on “Harmony with the Earth,” “Contribution to Local Communities,” and “Fostering the Next Generation. As a member of society, based on the JAL Group Corporate Philosophy, we will continue to contribute to the realization of a sustainable society where the SDGs are achieved and everyone can lead a safe, secure, and comfortable life.

With accelerating globalization and unprecedented interest in ESG/SDGs, the world is now entering an era of change in which economic activities themselves are influenced by the external environment. The JAL Group has been working to solve social issues and achieve the SDGs through its business activities, and in the Rolling Plan 2022, a revision of the Medium-Term Management Plan, we have positioned ESG strategies as our medium- to long-term growth strategy. Going forward, we will make major changes to our product services and business model from an ESG perspective.

The JAL Group’s ESG strategy is to “solve social issues and create sustainable human, commercial, and logistics flows. We will leverage our strengths as an airline company to create sustainable demand with our raison d’être of realizing a society and future in which many people and various goods can freely travel to and from each other, and in which people’s hearts are filled with joy.To this end, we will focus on three key objectives: to protect the global environment and thoroughly pursue safety and security, to sustainably fulfill our mission as a social infrastructure, and to deliver affluent lives and lifestyles to our customers.

There are two suggestions. First, Airplanes emit large amounts of CO2 dioxide. Airplanes are now an indispensable part of our lives. It is necessary to realize environmentally friendly operations while placing the safety of airplanes as the first priority. Second,  Take advantage of the benefits of an international perspective. In Japan, an island nation with an overwhelming majority of Japanese, JAL has employees with diverse backgrounds and valuable international experience. It is important to return that experience and JAL’s many international flights to Japan and the world.

Assignment B:
Apple Inc. is a multinational technology company that designs, develops, and sells consumer electronics, software, and online services. I have had an interface with Apple for more than eight years, and I use on a daily basis their products, like Mac, iPhone, AirPods, and also iPad.
Over the years, Apple has made significant efforts in corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability, with a particular focus on reducing its carbon footprint and promoting the use of renewable energy.

One of Apple’s most notable sustainability initiatives is its commitment to powering its operations with 100% renewable energy. As of 2021, Apple has achieved this goal, with all of its operations, including data centers, offices, and retail stores, running on renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydroelectric power. Additionally, Apple has made efforts to reduce the energy consumption of its products, such as using energy-efficient LED displays and designing products to use less power. In terms of its supply chain, Apple has been working to promote responsible sourcing and manufacturing practices. Apple has implemented strict environmental and labor standards for its suppliers, including requirements to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve working conditions, and ensure ethical sourcing of materials. Apple has also established programs to educate its suppliers on best practices for sustainability and social responsibility.

Furthermore, Apple has been involved in various philanthropic efforts, such as donating to charitable organizations and supporting education initiatives. In January 2018, Apple announced that it would support the fund’s goal of providing secondary education to more than 100,000 girls in India and Latin America. Apple’s products and services have also been used to promote social good, such as the Apple Watch’s health monitoring features and the company’s support for social justice initiatives through the App Store. For example, iOS includes a range of accessibility features, such as VoiceOver, which reads the contents of the screen aloud for people with visual impairments, and Switch Control, which allows users to control their device using external switches or other adaptive devices.

To create a more ethical, socially responsible, and sustainable business, I would recommend that Apple continues to invest in renewable energy and explore ways to reduce the environmental impact of its products. Apple can also further promote responsible sourcing and manufacturing practices by expanding its education and training programs for suppliers and increasing transparency in its supply chain. Additionally, Apple can continue to support philanthropic efforts and promote social good through its products and services. Apple can also consider implementing policies to improve diversity and inclusion within the company and its supply chain.

In conclusion, Apple has made significant strides in corporate social responsibility and sustainability, particularly in its efforts to use 100% renewable energy and promote responsible sourcing and manufacturing practices. To continue building on these efforts, Apple can focus on expanding its education and training programs, increasing transparency in its supply chain, and promoting social good through its products and services.

    The Ethics of Whole Foods

Considering that America wants to be more healthy in the way they eat is where Whole Foods comes into mind, thats what founder John Mackey wanted to do for a living is bring more healthy options for people and so Whole Foods was born. Thinking about how he wanted to expand his stores to a length of social responsibility and Ethics to his business, he had to bring marketers to help him reach that goal and show what the supermarket chain can bring to it’s consumers.

To get an over view of what Whole Foods wants to bring to its consumers is a great ethics principle, to start off there core is to sell the highest quality natural and organic foods, when entering the store they want to entrige there consumers to find the healthy options they want in finding vibrant stacks of produce, animal welfare rated meat and body care products with ingredents you can trust. To satisfy and delight their customers is by creating a work place that surely brings a welcoming shopping experience and it’s through this where they the employeers deliver understanding customer service through knowledge, skill, enthusiasm and operational excellence.

Now with great service comes Ethics in the job in Whole Foods and so there core is to promote team member growth and happiness which can bring collective energy, intellegence and contributions to all of it’s team members. They have designed and provide a safe and empowering environment where highly motivated people can reach their highest potential. Striving to build a positive and healthy relationship with their employers from being earned through transparent communications by recognizing the good work that team members should do every day.

We know as customers that when we walk into a store like Whole Foods, we expect everything we want to be there, this is where the business wants to provide the best for it’s consumers with many variety to pick from and the most additional helped asked for and their policy provides these services, it’s where they value the importance of fun, family and their involvement to encourage a rich, meaningful and balanced life.

Many may wonder, with a place called Whole Foods, where do they get their fresh produce? Well, being such a large distributor of healthy foods has come from an interdependent business ecosystem where there are 10,000 of suppliers that the business depends on to create an outstanding retail shopping experience for it’s customers, from reviewing trade partners to shareholders is how the business transactions are held.

In today’s world of large corps also comes large greenhouse gases that pollute the air and harms our crops and destroys our environment but considering what Whole Foods stands for is to not stop using admissions by the year 2030 in which standing by this commitment with the U.S. soon going towards more electrical for farms and the environment.

To conclude what Whole Foods stands for is to bring its products to its consumers to ensure their getting the best produce and bring more innovation to it’s stores, these are the ethics and soical responisbitys of Whole Foods.

BetterWorld

I have selected a local café and store near my local town to focus on, as I’m interested in learning more about small businesses in this specific area (given this relates to my personal goals). The café in question is BetterWorld, which describes itself as a “healthy-living store & organic coffee shop.” Their website states that their goals are to “find products that genuinely do no harm and support good people.” In several ways, this company exhibits good ethics and corporate responsibility through choices made and employee relations.

BetterWorld focuses on sustainable products in both their store and café. The store side of the business carries natural remedies, juices, and bulk cleaning products and toiletries. Such products allow consumers to purchase routinely needed products in a manner that reduces plastic waste. On the café side of the business, they serve ethically sourced coffee, bake many of their pastries on site, and stock a small number of groceries (e.g. cheese and eggs) from local suppliers. Throughout their physical site, they have many statements about how they carry no products from China or other “tyrannical regimes.” In addition, they have a small but dedicated core team of staff who appear to genuinely enjoy working there and the owner frequently works as a cashier to help staff out when they are busy, making the team feel like they are all in this together.

With all that said, there are still a few things the company could do to improve their business model in terms of CSR and ethics. While they do carry local products, for example, they also carry many items that are shipped over great distances (from California and from Europe), where local options do exist. Using local options first, they could further reduce their carbon footprint in greater alignment with their stated mission. The claim that they only stock products that “do no harm” is a little misleading when in fact they likely mean products that have a net positive impact, or minimal harm. Finally, this company is set up to serve the wealthy people of the tristate area (NY/NJ/PA), and their philanthropic efforts serve those same communities (primarily the children of their customers), when their resources could do more to tackle any one of a number of issues impacting folks of lower income brackets in the region.

In sum, this is a very socially and environmentally conscious company that is doing excellent work in terms of CSR and ethics, though there are some (small) areas for growth and improvement.
