Academic Competitions

The College Federal Reserve Challenge of the Federal Reserve System is a yearly academic competition sponsored by several reserve banks and is administered by the New York Federal Reserve Bank in the 2nd District. The College Federal Reserve Challenge consists of teams of three to five students from the NY Fed area colleges and universities, striving to create a professional presentation 15 minutes in length to be delivered in front of a panel of judges consisting of academics and professional economists. This presentation is followed by a 15 minute question and answer interaction.

Teams of BMCC students associated with the club have distinguished themselves repeatedly in the College Fed challenge competition. This is the only academic activity in the college where in the last 10 years BMCC student teams have consistently excelled in an academic competition in the regional and national level. Most recently the BMCC student team won the first place in the College Fed Challenge in the Maiden Lane Division in 2021, 2020 and 2019 and as a result they have been invited repeatedly to the Federal Reserve headquarters in Washington, DC where they met and were honored by Chair Jerome Powell.
