Text 1 summary, in 3-5 sentences: We need to think deeply about the question of whether to rent or buy a home. Consider everything, it depends on your needs. Think more about our plans for the future and consider our responsibilities. Whether you rent or buy is your personal decision as everyone’s situation is different.
Text 2 summary, in 3-5 sentences: Happiness is sharing with others. We should think about spending money on others, which will make you happier. And experiments show that when we spend money on ourselves, nothing happens.
Your thesis: If you know have to spend your money, think about spending your money on other people, it will make your more happier.
Paragraph 1: In the article “Should You Rent or Buy a Home in NYC?” Galupo mentions the stability and long-term investment advantages that buying a home can bring, but also the financial stress and risk that buying a home can cause. So if you think spending your money on your own home investment will add stress and risk, consider that spending it on someone else may make you happier and more satisfied.
Paragraph 2: In TED talk “How to Buy Happiness”, Michael Norton shares the results of his research showing that spending money on others can increase happiness and satisfaction. He points out that people often think that money brings happiness, but in reality, how money is spent may be more important than how much money is spent. His research shows that spending money on others, such as making charitable donations and buying gifts for others, can lead to more happiness and satisfaction.
Looks good. Definitely add author and title for the summaries too. Also, I’d like to see the body paragraphs more developed, with quotes etc.
Text 1 summary, in 3-5 sentences: My dream of owning a home with a backyard to play in and garden. Lots of rooms to live spacious. A large kitchen to not feel cramped and cluttered when preparing our meals. But is buy a home right now the right path? I need to value in the factors first.
Text 2 summary, in 3-5 sentences: Money buying happiness is probably a fantasy of everyone in the world. Do what you want, when you want, anywhere you want, at any time with no restrictions when it comes to what money can buy. It sounds fabulous, but is getting yourself anything you want anytime you want really going to create nonstop happiness, or is it the path to self-destruction?
Paragraph 1:
The article “Should you rent or buy in NYC?” by Isabel Galupo introduces us to reasons and decisions in comparing “buying vs. renting,” which is better for you?
Galupo suggests to first evaluate your lifestyle, finances, and needs and anticipate your future. Are you planning to start a family? Are you planning to stay at your current job? Or are you planning to change jobs or cities? How flexible do you want your life? When renting you are only responsible for your utilities (water, electricity, ect) versus buying where you are responsible for upkeep and maintenance, taxes, and insurance. Buying vs. Renting is a big decision that will have a complex positioning for pivoting your future and lifestyle, so you must consider all aspects before deciding is “Buying vs. Renting” best for you?
Paragraph 2:
Ted Talk “How to buy Happiness” by Michael Norton gives evidence of money and happiness and ways to achieve this. Can money buy happiness? It can in fact happen if the money is spent in certain ways. An example of confusion in this topic is “Winning the lottery” will make you happy because now you have lots of money to spend. But history and research show that many people spend all their money and go into debt. Also, with your newfound 98wealth all of your friends want some of your money and it ruins your friendships, social relationships, and family relationships. People think their lives will be amazing but instead they become antisocial, selfish, and unhappy. An experiment on this topic concluded that it is how you spend your money that brings happiness. People who spent money on other people were rewarded with happiness, and the amount of money, large or small, didn’t affect the resulting happiness much. Human universals and cultural differences didn’t matter much either, and it wasn’t the specific way you spend money on other people that is nearly as important as the fact that you “spent money on other people” and the reward was feeling good. A great example of this took place in a workplace for team building. One team split the money and took home $15 each. They showed no reward of self-happiness. The other team bought a pinnate full of candy and smashed it together. The pinnate team showed happiness and teambuilding, as well as a future return of more productivity together and became more profitable for the company then the other team.
Looks good. Excellent analysis of both texts.
For summary 1, I’d like to see the title, author and a brief summary of the article–with no personal opinion, which is what you have?
Also, what is the thesis here? Without it, it’s hard to see the heart of the essay.
Text 1: according to the first text named Should You Rent or Buy a Home in NYC?” by Isabel Galupo it is about a debate based on questions asked about the difference between renting or buying a house in NYC. Following those answers, they analyze the fact that that question requires a very deep reflection .
Text 2: For the second text named “How to Buy Happiness” by Michael Norton it is a debate on money and happiness and the relationship between them. In this debate the author shows us the fact that money can buy happiness or the opposite.
Paragraph 1: Renting or buying a house is a personal decision for the person concerned. As a result, the latter must set his goals to really know what is appropriate for him.
Paragraph 2: Having money can be a source of happiness but it is about how this money was earned but also how this money is used. And it always comes back to the account of the education we have received.
Good though I’d like to see more. A thesis? Also, revise your topic sentences for body paragraphs 1 and 2: according to the first text named Should You Rent or Buy a Home in NYC?” by Isabel Galupo it is about a debate based on questions asked about the difference between renting or buying a house in NYC–how can you make this correct and clear?
Plus, we want quotes from both texts and analysis.
Text 1 summary:
The decision to rent or buy a home requires careful consideration of personal needs and future plans, as it can bring both advantages and risks. While buying a home can offer long-term stability and investment benefits, it can also cause financial stress. Ultimately, the decision to rent or buy a home is a personal one that varies based on individual circumstances.
Text 2 summary:
According to Michael Norton’s TED talk “How to Buy Happiness,” spending money on others can lead to greater happiness and satisfaction than spending money solely on oneself. While people often believe that money brings happiness, how it is spent is actually more important. Norton’s research demonstrates that spending money on others, such as through charitable donations or gift-giving, can increase one’s happiness and satisfaction.
My Thesis :
When deciding how to spend money, considering spending it on others can lead to greater happiness and satisfaction, as shown in Michael Norton’s research, especially when compared to spending money solely on oneself.
Paragraph 1:
In the article “Should You Rent or Buy a Home in NYC?” by Galupo, the advantages and risks of buying a home are discussed, with potential financial stress and risk being mentioned. If buying a home is not the best option for personal circumstances, it may be worth considering spending the money on others instead, as this can lead to greater happiness and satisfaction.
Paragraph 2:
In Michael Norton’s TED talk “How to Buy Happiness,” he emphasizes the importance of spending money on others to increase happiness and satisfaction. His research supports the idea that spending money on others, such as through charitable donations or gift-giving, can lead to greater well-being than spending money solely on oneself. Therefore, when making spending decisions, considering the potential impact on others may lead to greater overall happiness and satisfaction.
Excellent work.
I know this was hard with the two articles–but how can you include a topic sentence in body paragraph 1 that is evidence for your thesis? Like you do in body paragraph 2? Also, add quotes for each.
1: In the article “You Should Sent or Buy a Home in New York’’ by Isabel Galupo, she touches the topic of what if people should rent or buy one of the discussions that are hard to resolve. In the curse of the article galipot talks about what it could be the best option for you, and how you should take in consideration your individual situation in the present and future. Galupo try to show how you should not think in others perception or opinion when you are about to make a big decision like rent or buy. As Galupo said “you need to take a moment to connect with what you really want and that will take you in the best path,’’ Galupo tries to let you now that the best thing between rent or buy is what you really desire.
2: In the article” how to buy happiness’’ by Michael Norton, he introduces of into the idea and the how people are wrong when they said that money don’t buy happiness. Norton then tell how he starts a study to see what happened when people spend money on other and on themselves. He is studies demonstrate that money does not really matter what mater is how you speeded if you spend money on yourself, it won’t make a difference: however, spending money on others even a small amount it would make you happier.
