I have read few stories from The immigrant story and I will try to retell the story of Sara Houranpay about her journey to United States from Iran. Houranpay and her twin sister were born in Tehran, Iran on sept. 11 1978. Just three days before their birth the regime led by Ruhollah Khomeini imposed martial law on Iran. After few year of their birth Iran-Iraq war started and their life became difficult. But her grandmother somehow managed an unique way to make them feel safe. In 1985 Houranpay’s family forced to leave the country due to her fathers connection with the Shah of Iran. So her family emigrated to Germany first then from there they emigrated to US. She have had several bad experience in US at first like bullying in school but they adopted in new environment and new countries through time. They open a persian resturant at Portland called Persian House. In 1991 when the twin sister traveled to Iran for vacation they were detained in airport for their fathers connection with Shah’s Government. They were remained in Iran for five years like outsiders. They returned to United States after five years in 1996. After that they gain a lot and settled in US pecefully.
Khatir is a girl from chad with a difficult childhood. During her studies when she was young, she had severe studies with very severe teachers. we can even say that she lived a martyrdom in her school. but luck smiled on her as she was admitted as a refugee in the U.S. This is how she continued her studies in the united states until her success.
The story of Franke Tokem, brings you into his experience of growing up queer in a small town in Central Africa during the 1990’s. At the age of 18, after years of hiding his true identity, he decided to leave home in search of finding a community of acceptance. His story and the connections he made takes him around the world including Ukraine, China, South Korea, America and more. On Franke Tokem’s takes the listener on a journey that explores the world and himself as he finds what he has always been searching for, friendship, love, and acceptance for himself and from others.
Trying to stay in the US of A. written by ELAI KOBAYASHI-SOLOMON is a really touching story and I personally find myself there for almost 95% of the whole story. In her journey, in her dream, for her life to improve, to have more opportunities, she sacrificed a lot, it seems she worked hard, studying, despite the ups and downs she had and because of the visa, in compared to me was lucky enough to get American documents. It is important to understand the real-life consequences faced by those who struggle to stay in the US and the impact it has on their lives as well as the community at large. To sum up the story, I am glad that Elai Kobayashi Solomon made it to the United States of America to have a better life than her country of birth, to also have more opportunities, and to be herself.
