Identity is a good curriculum theme. A few thoughts and comments:
1. For Pre-K, a more developmentally appropriate curriculum title would be something like “All About Me” or “Who Am I?”
2. As we discussed in class, the first two topics, “My Body” and “My Skin” should be combined into a single topic. In exploring “My Body” as part of identity, the focus would be on face and body, which would include skin tone. For a good example, take a look at the first sub-theme in my curriculum unit “All About Me.”
3. “My family” is an excellent sub-topic for this curriculum theme. Think about how each child in the class will explore this topic and how they will learn about their similarities and uniqueness. Again, this theme is explored in my curriculum unit “All About Me.”
4. The topic “The World” needs to be explored in a developmentally appropriate manner. For a young child the world they know is “My Community” Think about how you plan to explore this topic.
5. The final topic, “Activism” again needs to be retitled in a developmentally appropriate way, such as “How I Can Make My Community Better”
6. Finally, you need to think about a fifth subtopic to include in this thematic unit, since “My Body and “My Skin” are actually one sub-topic. What else might you explore with the children? Some ideas might be Interests/hobbies; pets/animals, friends/friendship, etc.
