This week you are going to begin organizing all the curriculum ideas, creative activities and children’s books that you’ve been working on up to this point in the semester.
Read Nurturing Creativity, Chapter 5.
Review the Curriculum Planning: Designing Long-Term Investigations powerpoint
Now, take a look at this example of project-based curriculum.
Think about the in-depth and long-term investigations in this curriculum unit, the big ideas and essential questions that were being explored in each lesson. Take a look at how content areas such as math, language, literacy, science and social studies were embedded in creative and child-centered activities. Think about the cognitive problem-solving that children engaged in during these learning activities.
Now, use the Final Project: Curriculum Web Planning Sheet to create a first draft of your curriculum web. The final draft is due at the end of the semester, so you have time to revise and elaborate on this first draft.
When you complete the assignment, post it here.
I would then like each of you to read and provide helpful comments and feedback to at least two of your classmates. Your comments should be respectful and should provide ideas and thoughts that would improve the curriculum plan. We will share your curriculum webs and feedback this week during our Sunday class.
