Module 8 Physical Development Activity #4: Self-Reflection

At the end of the semester you will develop a Self-Assessment of what you have learned which will help to determine your grade for ECE 209. In preparation for your Self-Assessment, answer the questions below; you will answer these questions at the end of each module so you have a record of what you have learned over the semester. You can answer the questions here on Open Lab or create a journal on Blackboard (which would be private).

  • What did you learn in the modules for ECE 209-Lecture and Seminar?
    • Information/ knowledge
    • Skills
    • Insights (connections you made or “ah-ha’s” you had about the material)
  • How will the material from these module better prepare you to work with infants?

  1. In this module, after watching the video and reading the articles I comprehend how Physical development is connected to brain development. I learned in more depth about the infants physical development, their nervous system, motor development and their milestones, and how senses are crucial for their physical development because thanks to senses babies can interpret and understand the world around them. In the seminar The readings were very interesting and I acquired more knowledge about the ways to partnership with families by maintain daily communications which can happen orally or in writing with the families.

  2. For this week I was able to learn more of the ways communication is key especially with parents of infants. I think it’s always a great idea to be able to communicate with parents but it’s even better to do so and make everyone feel like they are comfortable doing so. I think that being able to make a parent feel more at ease about their child not being with them is one of the most important things we should be able to do. I think being able to come up with a solution that works and benefits everyone will help me to be a better infant toddler teacher and possibly a better human over all.

  3. In this module i learned that physical development is connected to the brain development, i also learned that senses play a huge role in a infant’s life because they use their senses to understand things that they are surrounded by.

  4. In this module I learned how physical development is connected to brain development, the importance of proper nutrition and sleep during the first year, and how gross and fine motor skills emerge during child development.

  5. This week I learned about why consistent communication is important for teachers to have with parents; so the parents have on track with what’s going on with their child. I learned about how brain development connects to physical development. I also learned about how a child’s fine and gross motor skills improve as they get older

  6. In this module I learned how the brain development is connected to their physical development. Also how important it is for babies to be exposed to their senses. It is also important to communicate with their parents.

  7. In this module I learned about the growth and development of infants, how they are growing rapidly and on the go! By 6 months, they are moving around and learning to move purposefully with some coordination. With the supervision of their families and teachers, the infant should be encouraged to explore the world safely. This is the time when they are ready to learn, and the infant teacher and family can put a plan together that involves communication about the infant’s needs.

The “A-ha” moment I had wasn’t something extraordinary or different from what I have been learning. More so, it was finding out how much the infant teacher needs the family’s feedback as much as they are providing in return.

The material from the module will provide a background for information that I can refer to, when necessary,

  8. In this module I learned about physical development, motor development and when infants complete their milestones. I also learned how important the brain development is and how teachers can communicate with the babies and families.
