      1. Hi Diamunique
I agree with your strategy about having a consistent response. I think the best we can do is to make them feel comforted and love. In addition, our role as teachers is to help parents to build a healthy long-life attachment with their babies, because if the bond doesn’t exist between them, the baby can suffer the consequences in the future.

      2. Diamunique — Attachment is an emotional bond between an infant and the adults in their lives. Being emotionally present & engaged with a baby helps to form an attachment with a teacher; I wonder, what can an infant teacher do while diapering or feeding a baby to demonstrate they are emotionally present & engaged? I wonder, what is the theory of attachment, why is it important for infant teachers to know the theory behind attachment, and how do the videos & readings from this activity specifically connect to your comment?

  4. 1.-What is attachment theory?
According to the video “Attachment Theory—Understanding the Essential Bond”, The attachment theory is about understanding the essential bond between children and caregivers. For instance, during the child mother separation during the bombing in London, parents sent their children to the countryside where children were with safe people and they were well cared and well fed. However, they still have a very negative response to the separation from their mother. I think that it makes a lot of sense because children not only want their parents because they need food from them, but they also need to be held by them.
The article “Promoting positive attachments to infants” by Christine Snyder, attachment plays an integral role in the young infant’s development. For this reason, understanding sensitive and responsive caregiver must assured that the infant needs are met.

The attachment theory is very important for infant teachers so they can have a much better understanding of the child’s behavior. Careful observation of a child enables a teacher to develop reciprocity with the child and be responsive to the child’s signals and ways of communicating. Explaining to families the process & stages of attachment would help families develop a deeper understanding of child development and of their child. Teachers who are reciprocal and responsive create an environment for babies to trust them. I wonder, what would an environment that promotes trust & inclusion look like? How can teacher be synchronous to a baby’s routines and pace?
